@@drewan8 There are degrees of every condition and situation. Nothing is black and white. Certainly you should be able to understand that I was not stating an absolute. That is the problem with today's U.S. -- people have been conditioned to think in zero-sum terms. Good people live in both countries but we have a real problem in ours. It is evident in the bloated jingoism of American claims to superiority and the rancorous divisiveness we all live with.

My wife and in-laws are Canadian, and I had the good fortune to live in Canada for about a year. This time corresponded with Gord’s decline and eventual untimely passing, but what amazed me about Canada & Canadians was their unity and love for each other, as was evident in the aftermath of Gord’s passing. It is such a contrast to the USA that we live in and the Canada, Scotland, England & Europe/Asia we left behind because of my work. Canada & Canadians are just wonderful….. and I can’t wait to get back!! The USA could learn much from their neighbors!

I came to this country as a kid, immigrant parents, working hard and all. I was always shocked, surprised that a country that welcomed us here, treated the aboriginal people in such a horrible way.i essentially read up on all these issues since it was rarely discussed at school. Canada should square its debt to the native people, not just compensation, as anybody can cut a cheque. But truly a reconstruction of their communities, that is what is needed. We have a lot to learn from them and you can't do that when someone is in that position of constant struggle for everyday life.

I've never felt so left out as a Canadian in my life, I was just a Calgary kid with so much love for Canada, but as soon as Trudeau came into power it feels like Alberta is just nothing, its only the province that provides for all of Canada, and yet Ottawa and Quebec treat it like trash. Alberta is in the hardest place its been in, in decades and we just keep getting shat on by the East, billions of dollars of equalisation payments and finally when we ask for help we get none of it, we ask for a pipeline and its declined and oppressed by cities like Montreal who talk about pollution, but continue to dump raw sewage into their river. It really shames me now when i say i'm Canadian, under a leader so weak and just awful. Wish we could have you back Stephen Harper, but for now i'd rather be called an Albertan rather than a Canadian.
