Thank you, I practice Zen Buddhism here in Colorado, at our recent Shessin, I thought I was so wise, thought I had "the answer" in Shikantaza practice, broke me down to my core with a simple question I could answer, and it scared me to my core. I broke down, went down deep into some darkness I couldn't understand but needed to see and experience, and came out of it thankfully with the support of my Sangha sisters and brothers. I wouldn't advise seeking darkness cause you might get consumed if you don't have support or those to help pull you out of it, but I feel I needed to see my darkness and then let the light in to know, as one knows the left hand by knowing the right hand. So I agree its important to know your fears and understand them. thank you. Gassho.

I'm curious about how zen relates with autistic people. My son and I both are on that spectrum and daily life is always about being uncomfortable in innumerable situations and confronting fear. I love how you explained this, that vulnerability and awe.
