Almost 40 years ago, l and friends l was travelling with, were at a disco in, l think, Andalusia and the DJ put on a flamenco record. Every single person on the floor (apart from us) instantly stamped their foot and put their arms in the air. Although there were some families and some children most of the people were in their 20s, like us, and we thought they were having a laugh but, every single person danced flamenco until the song ended. It was the most amazing sight and l've never forgotten it.

anybody who thinks this is poorly done has no idea what they're talking about. Flamenco is HARD. You are learning multitasking in the extreme, all while keeping rhythm and playing an instrument (with your feet). Unless you are a dancer you should probably shut your mouth and walk a mile in their shoes (literally) before you even think about commenting on this beautiful dancing.

yes, anyone who really knows Flamenco and been around the culture knows there is not really a right or wrong way to dance Flamenco, the most important aspect of the dance and music is feeling the compas (rhtthm) and expressing your own unique style. Some are more expressive, or more emotional than others at the time, just depends on how they are feeling that night. The dance is about expressing emotions while you mark the time in the music.

Well, as someone who Did try to learn Flamenco, I think you have confirmed the fact that this is not very good. There were better people in my beginners class. Some of whom went on to become teachers and performers. In Spain. This is just another tourist rip off. The woman in black isn't too bad, but there is an awful lot of tap in there! The cream shoed women just basically stamp their feet! When she Did do a step I was thinking, 'Yeah ,that was the first one I was taught .Is that it? what happened to Brazeo? Hang onto your skirt instead! Also they don't work together. 'Best Flamenco I ever saw' should maybe read 'Only Flamenco I ever saw' Try this instead kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ-loWSLjLp5m80 As you are such an afficianado I think you such spot the difference,.

Well then, if the dance is all about expression of feelings, I guess we can all as audience express our opinions as well. I enjoyed the video overall. My favorite dancers use correct form for starters. That starts with posture, brazeos, distinction of footwork, etc. For me, if form is not a factor, I don't care how care how many "feelings" are being expressed. It just looks like drama to me, and it's not that interesting.

In flamenco there is so much to pay attention to. The feet making such beautiful sounds, the hands grasping at the hem of the dress or swirling them like doves ready to fly, the twists and turns of the body that would put some contortionist to shame and the expressions of the face. And the cantores and guitarists. Pure art.

What i’m trying to say is, yes it has influence from Roma, but flamenco is only a spanish tradition that originated in spain as a mix from many countries, and those countries don’t share the same tradition. Wonderful nights spent with Jose, his guitarist , and lovely lady. He was a magician! Performing twirls and leaps that seemed to defy gravity. @@eleni1968 You cannot steal or appropriate art unless you're talking about plagiarism. By it's nature, art transcends cultures and translates experiences across space and time. If art was the prize possession of one people it would never develop. The Romani gypsies did not exist in a vacuum. They picked up multiple influences from Andalusian culture that was already well established in the 15th century when they arrived. You could just as well argue they appropriated the surrounding Andalusian culture: the bullfight you see clearly in their posturing, Mozarabic chant, northern "Gallic" liturgies and the Jota to name but a few influences; none of which originate with them. Our world would be vacuous and miserable if people are not permitted to use or interpret each others' art forms (if it was even possible to establish whose was whose in the first place).

Go research the technicalities of flamenco cante - they sing in differently keyed tones to regular western singing. The person who states that after one class they did better is truly a genius and I'm wondering on which international stage we should be seeing them. Today I stood and observed Alejandra Gudi teach an intermediate class in working with the Mantones at what is to me the new digs of the previous building at Calle Amor del Dios which has now relocated to Calle Santa Isabel 5 on the top floor of a foods market. Though climbing up the stairs passing by the smell of cheese and fried fish saddened me of the perpetual momentum for condos taking over arts buildings the hallway as soon as you enter the new place is so full of pictures and articles which was overwhelming how amazing it is to have such a place survive the decades. Alejandra had about 15 students with a very diverse look as serious flamenco dancers from all over the world are drawn to this Mecca for flamenco. Miss Gudi was meticulous with both the movements, the rhythmic pattern, the handicapping accompanying the singing, which she provides, and on top of all this arms flying with the Manton which is the dancers extended wings, her partner, her protection, her shield, her emotions, her hopes and fears. The degree of seriousness and methodical work is enormous. Indeed duende, as expounded by the eloquent Federico Garcia lecturing all over Spain and South America, must be summoned up by the dancer to allow flamenco dancing and singing and guitar to reach a level of transcendence, but what prepares and leads to that moment is repeated handwork day in day out, over and over and over until one gets it physically so that everything looks as if the dancer has just come up with it. People who had not gone through this kind of discipline should indeed "hush," and I should not be so snooty about tourists. They bother to want to see dancing and other art forms which may be lost if left to fashion and trend promoted by the cognoscenti of the moment, people of some visibility or notoriety but might have vacuous aesthetic notions. Flamenco has withstood the vicissitudes of time and fashion precisely because dancers could rely on performing for tourists at night who have bought dinners to see them. With that money they make dancing into the wee hours of the night they pay for their classes the next day and continue to allow their artistry to grow. Tourists may remember the classic songs and the traditional attire so that talented dancers learn these well before leap-hoping to the ultra-modern immediately, as so often with concert dancing.

Awesome to see good Flamenco. The Gitano art form evokes a swagger, passion and élan that’s empowering for its performers. Similar to that displayed by matadors during the corrida de toros.
