Given how sensitive animals in the deep are to vibrations, I wonder how many animals we will never find just because the submersibles scare them off from miles away.
@Hanna554724 ай бұрын
Damn that’s such a good point
@NaturalWorldFacts4 ай бұрын
It’s a great point! And the answer is probably quite a lot of them! Same for the lights - the ones we do see tend to be animals that are actually drawn in and attracted by the bright lights, they find them mesmerising (and undoubtedly blinding, at least short-term). But not all deep sea animals will be lured in, there are likely many that are ultra skittish, speedy, and wary of any lights or vibrations, and we would simply have no way of knowing! One approach to finding them could be suspended baited camera traps with dim red lights (often hard for animals to perceive). It would be a fascinating study! They’ve done something similar with pulsating lights mirroring the bioluminescence of Atolla jellyfish to lure in giant squid, and it was quite successful!!
@tiffanyramey8454 ай бұрын
@@AlyxForest wow I never thought of that but point well made...unfortunately I don't think well ever know. It's crazy to think how little we know about our ocean. So many creatures are waiting to be discovered! It's exciting and a little scary.

@@NaturalWorldFacts OK, I've had a little think...takes a while, I'm a senior after all...😉 Anyway, I don't have specific time stamps for you, but in general, I am spellbound by the scenes which highlight unusual (to us) deep sea creatures against the dark background. I think it shows how beautiful they are and how magnificently diverse Nature is. One reminder I'd make is to keep an ear on the music level...it's never been an issue in your previous videos, but was somewhat in this one. Your voice is so soothing, and the footage so stunning, that I feel the music should be a background support...like the right spice enhances a meal, but doesn't overpower it. For me, less is better than too much. As far as what I'd like to see in the next video, I leave that up to your capable hands...you're much more knowlegable and talented in that department. Having watched EV Nautilus and MBARI footage from the ocean floor, I know it will be spectacular. There are also more varied environments to explore, not just open deep water, and so the animals are of a completely different type. I confess to loving the various octupuses and crab species found near the ocean floor, but I find all the wondrous creatures fascinating, and so appreciate all the work involved in sharing them with us! I look forward to the next Leo masterpiece!😊

@@NaturalWorldFactsLeo, I could write SO MUCH about what I loved about this film.. so this may be a long reply.. 😁 I thought it was wonderful how you started with, _"Below the shimmering surface,"_ showing clips of whales and fish.. and then immediately took us down further into the darkness, explaining everything with great clarity, including a brief return to the twilight zone.. This approach definitely holds people's attention! Which parts did I enjoy the most? To be honest, *everything!* We all have our favourite creatures.. I am particularly fascinated by anglers, siphonophores (43:00 fantastic footage and explanation of these bizarre organisms), comb jellies and other bioluminescent creatures.. from 8:00, for example, the footage of these jellies using their tentacles was exceptional.. but I could point out countless similar moments! I also noticed additional special little sound effects which fit perfectly with each different clip and added to the viewing enjoyment.. and the music was perfect! 16:55, for example, the way you related so clearly about "ultra blackness" and melanin.. and then taking the viewer back for a moment to the stark contrast of the twilight zone.. Even though life in the abyss is a complicated affair, your explanation was so clear and easy to follow.. It was also a great idea to appear in person at the end.. at 49:30 we are dragged out of the abyss and can take a big breath of air and hear bird song back on land.. 😀 It was a great way to bring us "back to earth.." 👍 This was an hour of sheer fascination for me, with everything explained simply and clearly.. you have no need to worry about your future, Leo.. because it's clear you were BORN to do this! I found this channel not long after you had reached 7K subs and I remember watching some of your very first videos.. an enthusiastic 10-year-old with the confidence and passion to make wildlife videos! I knew then that you were destined for great things.. ✊ You are still a young fiIm maker, a university graduate.. yet I don't believe I have *EVER* watched a more professional, explanatory and satisfying documentary about the sea! I could write a LOT more 😆 but suffice to say.. this was absolutely BRILLIANT work and I am full of admiration.. Well done! 👏👍🙋🏻♀️🥳

The audiowork on this is insane. The sound design perfectly encaptures the absolute surrealness of the visuals. Videos lile this make me feel queezy in a good way, because I project my human experience into these creatures get flashes of how my emotional life, my hierarchy of meaning would look like if I was one of these organisms. Imagine the worldview of an intelligent anglerfish male, with all of lifes meaning culminating in the return to a woman, at which point you give up yourself and become a mindless husk, probably falling into a state of hypnagogia, drowning in a sea of endorphines, while your ego slowly dissolves as your brain withers away and you become one with the divine female. Imagine the perspective of a colony member in a syphonophore. Youre at the very bottom. You feel just as inferior as in a human hierachy, your coming to the stem was late so it is selfevident that your value as a member is much lower than anyone higher up the stem. Given danger, you might be discarded, and experience the time before death very much completely alien to your life before, being an individual for the first and a very short time, before you reach the far and foreign lands of 2 plastic dimensions that is the seafloor. Or be one of the symbiote fish, juvenile and scared you swim through the blackest depths of deep space, with nowhere to hide but the darkness. Constantly alert and in fear of your life, surviving some encounters just by luck of not receiving a predators primary attention. And then one day, your specially adapted sensory nerves hear a deep humming vibration. And suddenly, all the anxiety is washed away by anticipation, like an Addict in withdrawal who just scored, and as the humming gets louder, out of the darkness appears a massive ship of flesh, sailing this abyss with a confidence and vitality you could merely dream of, this ship is your SAVIOUR, your HAVEN, your belonging. And finally, as you find comfort and embrace in those gellatenous walls, a feeling of relief and safety overwhelms your ambivalent mix of worry and anticipation, very much like the addict who just injected a strong opiate. But what you yet dont know, is that one day there will come a day where youll have to swim the void alone again. So enjoy the shelter while you can. Anyways, amazing video, I wouldve payed for this tbh. The volume between your voice and the music/sfx is perfectly balanced, the visuals are enticingly surreal, and I thank you for gracing us with stimulatory content like this. After watching this, I feel content to know a satisfying amount more of a foreign place, coming closer to a point where I can cross out the box of oceanic biomes as conceptually explored to a sufficient degree. Anticipating your Seafloor next.

Dude sounds nothing like TTS. This is such an insult disguised as a compliment. He has an interesting and varied delivery style and you need to get better at distinguishing artificial voices if you could get this one confused.

If he trained his voice on certain AIs for about a month, he could tts and it would have lots of that nuance. Its scary...@katvelyte

I despise AI, especially where artistic vision and human talent is concerned. As someone who’s entire life and career has been fuelled by a deep love of thoughtful science communication inspired by a childhood spent glued to Attenborough’s shows - transfixed in no small part by the wonderful sense of passion he imbued into the narration - AI voices in educational content make me furious!
@ALT-vz3jn4 ай бұрын
@@NaturalWorldFactsI agree with you. It’s difficult for me to really get into the content when an AI voice is used. I think that creators are worried their own voice won’t come across as well, but I greatly prefer an imperfect human voice over an AI bot.

your videos are the only documentaries I will watch nowadays. You don't anthropomorphize the creatures, you narrate succinctly and everything in your narration has a purpose. This is the highest caliber documentary channel on youtube, maybe even on the internet at large. I greatly appreciate the effort put in to giving common and scientific names, explaining the environments and their unique pressures, how the organisms function and behave (especially difficult since it is not simple or cheap to gather this data), comparisons between species, evolutionary and life history... I can go on. Understanding is the first step to fostering a genuine love and appreciation for the life on our planet. Keep up the good work.

All this combined gives very chill yet spooky vibes! Absolutely beautifully put together! Throughout the whole thing I was getting goosebumps almost feeling uneasy. @@NaturalWorldFacts Oh my goodness it's all wonderful so narrowing my favorite is hard. The glass octopus is just stunning and the ghostly music in the background...I love it! I'd never seen a lot of what you showed like the mother black eyed squid was sweet to learn about. Also the siphonophores are mind blowing. I'd love to learn more on how that whole system works. How each one determines what it's job is and morphes it's body for that job. The deepest darkest and strangest part of the ocean is what peaks my interest, I truly enjoy learning anything about it. I'd like to learn more about whale falls and brine pools. I've attempted to find more videos on these two subjects but really you are the only channel that has anything on either one. I'm so excited for your next video of the deep sea floor. Until then I'll just admire all the videos you have so far 🥰
