As a matter of interest, what safety concerns could you have had, other than your general unpreparedness to go into the NZ bush?

I've gone over the Ridge behind sunrise, it can go from clear skies total whiteout in under 10 minutes

I too was concerned about lack of preparedness and knowledge around NZ hiking. Points for taking load off struggling member and walking at her side. Not knowing hike time. Starting late. Bad weather without emergency shelter. Getting the great video footage is not worth taking unreasonable risks. Think Sunrise hut now requires booking. Did group book or even but hut tickets?
