Electric Bastionland is the follow-up book and both are great when you play, Electric Bastionland has many more classes etc. It will always have a place in my heart, you can play a Mockery (basiclly a Muppet).

The less mechanics like skills, talents, perks etc your c character have the less they can rely on them. I gamed Mausritter yesterday which is based on the same rules. The first encounter a Pc died. They learned quickly not to trust in their combat abilities. So they started to ask tons of questions about every little detail in every situation and came up with the craziest ideas to trap their enemies, distract and bait them and used every tool in their equipment in ways that I would've never came up with. In a game like DnD usually player look on their character sheet and see what solution to the problem the game offers them. IN games like these, their ideas are always the solution. They felt connected to their characters because of the NPCs we created together and the story we developed. You have to experience it to believe it.

EXACTLY. Every missing class-specific skill tree, perk list and advancement track is a new butt-load of options a player has open before them to make the character whatever they want it to be. And every missing rule on "what to do when..." and how to do it means that a character is freed up to actually use their own ingenuity and imagination and come up with something to try.

If we dont't have many stats to deal with, the filling in the blanks is the fun part you get to do as the Referee.

Woow great presentation of the game! I really like the minimalism and I also like how you need to improvise as a GM in the adventure. Three GMs can run the same game and it will be a totally different experience.

WE always used to say "DM", back in the day. Lol. And with my first dedicated gaming group DM applied to any game. If we were playing Champions, for example, my friend Kevin would "DM" some super hero gaming. My "back in the day" started in 1981. You?

1978 when i was in grammar school. I played a good amount of miniatures games in high school so the referee title just crossed over into anything. Plus is seems silly to call Someone running Top Secret a Dungeon Master. ~ Jeff

I feel that the term OSR doesnt just describe old school clones but also games like this with an old school mentality. I feel this game also goes with the OSR. It's a renaisance which just means a revival of ideas in a way. It's a way of thinking when designing a game.

Seems like a fair score for what the game is. It didn't look bad at first look, but I suppose it all depends how well supported it is going forward which would make me decide whether to give it a shot. I made sure to watch this video Jeff haha.

I feel like this came from a pretty limited point of view...especially for someone with as much experience in different systems and play styles as I would assume you have. But, you're welcome to it I guess. I feel like modern players are looking for whatever their first experiences in gaming taught them to, just as they always have. And, just like they always have, I think a certain number will be open to different playstyles if given the chance and some will not. The lack of specifics in the character creation that you view as making all the characters "the same" is exactly what allows the player to make their characters whatever they WANT them to be, and to play them as such. You only have a certain amount of available carrying capacity, and both worn armor and spell use will eat into that. So if you wanna be a Fighter, either make sure you have a high ST and good sword and shield, or make sure you have a high DX and a decent ranged weapon. If you wanna be a magic or Arcana user, you need the space for carrying those different spell sources around and armor becomes a luxury you are often too tired or loaded up to afford. If you're more of an agile Explorer or straight up Thief, you'll probably move light and keep some climbing and thieving equipment handy. The background of the game is left intentionally suggestive but vague to allow the DM to bring in any pregen module they like, or any homebrew they've cooked up, and have a place to plug it in. A city adventure? Put it in Bastion. Going into the underdark? Have them find an unexplored tunnel system in The Underground. A hexcrawl or tomb delve? Set it somewhere out in Deep Country. The Oddpendium has a lot of stuff to help out a DM inexperienced with a more loose running style, as well as bits and pieces that will tweak the game for someone looking for something different... All the d100 tables are meant to help a less experienced or less quick-witted DM come up with those spur of the moment decisions players will sometimes force on you through play. The Alternative Character Groups are for people who may want to play a different game than a group of explorers... - Mutants from the Underground lets you play as beastmen, or maybe even mutants in a more post apocalyptic setting. - Simple Folk lets you start play as a more standard fantasy character, and less of a modern, city type...good for starting play as more of a 0 or 1st level DnD character. - Unhumans gives some base rules for making Into the Odd versions of the standard DnD races, for people who wanna have them in the setting or even play them.

Be sure to insult the reviewer right out the gate because that will certainly make people want to check out the points you're looking to make. Sorry, but like many gamers out there, I think Into the Odd is a ton of hype and just an okay NuSR RPG.

@@kellynewman-e3v there was no insult made, and I doubt he's that sensitive to what can't be the first ever critique of his view on a game. You're also welcome to your opinions. Sorry if I find the point of view...limited.
