There are some times when you know you're going to click with someone or something. I felt it, the moment I took my new Elf ocarina out of its box and held it in my hands. And when I played it, the whole house seemed to resonate with the music. I'm looking forward to playing Into The West on my Elf ocarina. If I can manage to do it half as well as this, I'll be happy. She needs a name ...

Yes, ocarinas are comparatively inexpensive for ocarinas, but some people don't have the spare money to spend. I appreciate what you're saying, but not everyone even has a spare dollar. I try to be mindful of this and thankful for the blessings I have. Life can change pretty quickly and anyone's circumstances can change.

Beautiful. Who would have thought you could get such lovely music from such a small instrument.

That happens from time to time. There are some Australians on TON who have been known to order a larger order together and split the shipping cost. It is a possibility :) You could talk to a few friends to see if they are interested in any and all order together, or even convince your parents to give ocarinas as gifts to people for Christmas...

That is magnificent. As a student of the ocarina, I watched this the third or fourth time to get the fingering. what works for this is likely to work for any 12-hole transverse ocarina. I'll post another comment once I've received my own STL Elf Ocarina.

1 to 10 ratings can sometimes be arbitrary. I can say that the Elf ocarina is beginner friendly, and like all musical instruments/ocarinas - it will require practice. If you have very large hands, you might find that your right hand might feel a little cramped because the mouthpiece is short, but other than the the ergonomics are pretty good too. I won't be starting my overview for it until at least mid-July, but I will do one eventually.

Not at all. It's actually pretty comfortable. The long tapered end is quite nice, and while the mouthpiece is short, I don't think it is too short.

I understand that even $50 can seem like a lot of money. The thing is, if you let people around you know that you want to earn money for a musical instrument, they are likely to help you find ways to earn the money.

I'm thinking about getting this ocarina. I have been wanting to learn the ocarina for a while. I am not going to buy the dragon tooth because it's an alto and I want a tenor and the dragon tooth is much more expensive than the elf. Should I get this one? I looked at stl's beginner ocarinas and they're all plastic and I don't want a plastic one.
@rexlink110 жыл бұрын
Hopefully you haven't bought one from STL yet as their tenors are actually the same tuning and notes as the Alto's in most other places.. They call it a tenor because it has the same base range as a tenor recorder, but an alto from Songbird is the same as a tenor from STL as far as I can figure.

Woah, what a beautiful ocarina! Is it hard to play on? Can you rate it on a scale from 1 - 10. Where 10 being the most dificult. It doesn't look too beginner friendly. Anyways I still loved the vid, thanks for uploading!

can someone help please? the link this leads to says that this is a tenor ocarina. but the pitch is the exact same as my alto. is this an alto or a tenor? i want to buy it, but only if it's really a tenor ocarina.
@thomasdenardo83011 жыл бұрын
This depends on the site you bought it from usually. Check the note range from site to site. On STL, for example, their Tenor is the equivalent of the Alto from Songbird.
@pirola111 жыл бұрын
thanks a lot :) i figured that i want a tenor in G or lower.

Charlizard777 It's upside down, and seems to use Sindarian style. Also I see some letters I just can't translate but I'll try. First Word- **irg. (first letter possibly i, if using Quenyan style.) Second Word- chiLd Third word (Definately Sindarian style)-can. Sorry about the first word, I just can't make it out.
@Magnymbus10 жыл бұрын
So, you were right about the tengwar on the side is upside down, but the way it's pronounced depends on which language it's used in. according to my research, in classic mode it's pronounced ii[v/w]irnw khilnd kan, It's obviously not beleriand (because the vowels are above the tengwar), and in general mode it would be iiwirng chhild chan. ngwalme is never pronounced as a "g", and calma is either k or ch... again, that's just from my research. But I can't find those or similar words in any dictionary of any language that uses tengwar. so it seems like it was just slapped together to appease fans who didn't actually care to learn about the language.
@Norion_Artifice9 жыл бұрын
yarkshry Suilad! I'm a sindarin speaker and was a bit disappointed about the fact that these are just random tengwar/tehtar, otherwise the ocarina is pretty good. It is hard to play though as the mouthpiece is a bit too round for me. I prefer the more flat ones from the STL Zelda ocarinas and so on. And its beautiful noless.

Hey Cris! At first I have to admit that this is the most beautiful realization of a Lord of the Rings piece on the ocarina. I love listening to your version. :) So, I recieved my Elf Ocarina two days ago and I'm having problems playing her properly. Sometimes the notes just seem to be airy, even the lower ones. I'm already trying to adjust my airflow, trying to blow more or less, but it seems like I can't find the sweet spot. :-/ Since you're a very talented and experienced ocarinist, I want to ask you if there are any specialities about this particular ocarina that I should be aware of? Or do I just need more practice? Thank you very much and best regards
