An innovative partnership between The Rehab Physio and Great Gait Orthotics means that The Rehab’s Physio’s patients have access to a breakthrough tool for people living with spasticity, muscle weakness, movement disorders, pain and related symptoms.
Great Gait provides orthotic, prosthetic, musculoskeletal rehabilitation products and services for patients across the UK. Through Great Gait, The Rehab Physio can now add the Exopulse Mollii Suit to our range of treatments for neurological rehabilitation.
The Exopulse Mollii Suit consists of a comfortable jacket and trousers with built-in electrodes for adults and children living with motor function and other disabilities as a result of conditions including Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosisstroke, brain and spinal cord injury.
The suit delivers individually programmed electro-stimulation to muscle groups all over the body simultaneously during a 60 minute session. The Exopulse Mollii Suit’s sensory-level stimulation delivers relief where needed by prompting natural responses of muscle inhibition, muscle activation and pain relief, lasting for up to 48 hours.
The Mollii suit was originally developed in Sweden and now used across the globe. Results of clinical studies show both the measurable and practical benefits of the suit for both adults and children, in terms of improvements in spasticity, muscle weakness, uncontrolled movements, associated pain, and fatigue, leading to benefits in physical ability, comfort, participation and overall quality of life.
During a recent visit to The Rehab Physio, a selection of patients underwent physical measures before and after trialling the suit for one hour. There were some really positive results, showing liberation of movement following a reduction in spasticity from using the suit. Participants were permitted to then take the suit away for a 2 week period. One remarked that it made a significant difference in reducing his hypertonicity (muscle tension), following an incomplete spinal cord injury.
