Les Intore étaient traditionnellement des guerriers membre de la garde royale burundaise. De retour du champ de bataille, cette danse était le moyen d’exprimer leur bravoure devant la population et surtout en présence du Roi.

Intore means warrior. Intore warriors of ancient armies of Burundi were a particular kind of warrior group to have lives throughout ancient Burundi. They have not always been known as dancers but rather the warriors of Umwami who received royal treatment and privileges. Dancing was a kind of parade before the delighted people when returning from victory. The warrior wears the skin of a leopard and an elaborate headdress, bells on their ankles and necklace of ivory. In his right hand is a spear and his left a shield. The warrior of Umwami was courageous and never withdraw before the enemy, that’s what characterize the current army of Burundi. You remember the origin of the name Kirundo , Shinge ,Rugero it is because of the warrior of ancient Burundi army. We will always do the same. Burundi never attack an other country, but because it is small, he who try to attack our small country we shift the battle to where the enemy came from.
