5:20 on hardcore difficulty it is stated that enemies will notice missing patrols. So you have to literally observe patrol pattern and check if the guy you want to take out was seen on his rout.

I do genuinely like the story. Getting the good ending first try was so satisfying, along with the soundtrack playing. Spy is also remaking the first game's maps and porting them over as DLC for IV2.

Great review, a lot of the experiences you've described, especially with Dishonored, were very relatable lol My first playthrough of this game was on true difficulty. I thought it'd be like IV1, where you can generally knock people out and still get a ghost rank somewhat easily. And then i realised that enemies NOTICE MISSING PATROLS and get put on alert because of that and that was the start of me beating the whole game on limited saves and oh boy i have mixed feelings, but i did beat it non-lethally as Sean. Still a really good game and i'm glad i got it, with a better story and direction than the first game PS Steve is not ex military. Its all a consequence of the first game, where he was taking revenge for his brother's death and in the process got trained by "The Accomplice". Its an even simpler story but it wasnt meant to be anything crazy, merely a backdrop to the gameplay as the dev stated

I'd make the joke that Hotline had just as much help from metal gear back in the day. I mean classic, 2D metal gear. you could probably translate most of this to that style and it would work... 95% of the way there? Presenting it the same way Hotline did honestly give it its own bit of flair. Metal Gear mixed with Splinter Cell depth of mechanics, gritty stories like the Political Thrillers that inspired em with a bumping soundtrack and Hotline shootouts if you screw up? What's not to love?
