Hive 3D has partnered up with the legendary Andrey Rudenko to print this well thought out and detailed home between Houston and Austin. They skipped the boring 4 wall printing most groups start with and went big with a design that could only be accomplished with a concrete printer (technically I guess they started with the garage of the home which is 4 boring walls). In this video we walk through the printed building with the Founder and the COO of Hive3D and learn about what makes this house so unique, how they plan on improving the process, and what we will see from Hive 3D in the future!

So exciting, it just gets better and better. I love the new textures, colors, and (because I am a painter) the built in frames! Oh, yes. I have to laugh when I hear people trying to demand that the government do something about the housing and meanwhile you men are out there fixing it for everyone for the future. You are creating the end of weather crashed homes, homelessness. and all. God, I love you guys, you are doing so well, advancing reality in the real world. Thank you.

Thanks so much for the love! We really do want to bring these homes to as many people as we can and make them access able to everyone. Our next few projects are focused on affordable housing.

Great job guys. And Jarett too for filming it. I think Andrei has the best prints I’ve seen so far and seems to be the simplest set up as well. Difficult to get in touch with, but When I buy, it will likely be Andrei’s. Tim, Daniel, great job and I am probably going to be reaching out sometime in the near future.

I was a concrete finisher for 20 years, and I’ll be interested to see the progression of the techniques. I could see how the terrain would dictate whether or not, you can actually even set up your 3-D printer.?

It sits up on rails and blocks so it can be leveled on almost any terrain.

Ideally, you certainly want to start with the level print area, and the printer can adjust for fluctuations around an inch or so but beyond that it gets a little dicey. The technology is certainly improving. The number of people working on. It keeps growing and I do know a lot of really smart people working on it. I believe that within 3 to 5 years this technology would be capable of some really incredible things.

So do I have to fasten cabinets and other woodwork to concrete walls or do you have someone fir it out with 1x2s like on a standard masonry house?

I really like this project...wondering why they don't try to hit some of the walls with a trowel when they're printing?? Seems it would be easy to smooth out some of the walls that way, but maybe that would cause some weakness??
@automateconstruction
@automateconstruction Жыл бұрын
That doesn't cause weakness, some groups do it all the time.

Hi Tyler, Spray on stucco would be the easiest and most cost effective. We plan to keep these walls mostly as is becuase we like the way they look but will certainly smooth out some of our walls in future projects.
@leonmilner9994
@leonmilner9994 Жыл бұрын
@@timothylankau3924 It already looks as good as stucco imo. People just aren't as familiar with it yet. It'd be better to just keep doing it this way until people get used to it!

Didn't get their PSI but most printed concrete is around 5000-6000psi compressive strength.
@nobreighner
@nobreighner Жыл бұрын
@@automateconstruction Reported test cylinder values isn't strength in-place, but the default 2500 psi is plenty. An aerated mix is probably lower, but still probably fine for wythes. Getting an aerated mix to stand up quickly and not shrink too much (without expensive ingredients) is their impressive feat!

It’s 12 inch thick solid concrete so super strong!
@timothylankau3924
@timothylankau3924 Жыл бұрын
Right on! The printed material is a pretty standard mix so 4000-5000 psi. The foamcrete is a lower foam mix that tested out over 900 psi. We got almost no shrinkage with it. It did take some experamentation to get the mix right. All in all way more than enough compressive strength to support a 60,000 pound roof. It could probably support millions of pounds based on The basic math. .
@nobreighner
@nobreighner Жыл бұрын
@@timothylankau3924 OK, I misunderstood - thinking that you were able to print with an aerated mix - something I found to be really tricky, but not impossible. CMX works a bit better than Drexel for that purpose. The striations look awesome!
