Is noone else noticing how fluidly Dr. Bazett can write backwards? That is the most impressive thing I swear.

By the way, tip about the OR operation: the word "or" in speech is often equivalent to an operation called the exclusive OR (true if one or the other is true, but not both), like in "Your money or your life". The logical OR is sometimes made more explicit in ambiguous scenarios with "and/or", as in "Violation of the copyright may be punished with a fine and/or jail time."

It took me until my 2nd year of college before I actually learned about logic of mathematical proofs. It baffles me how much easier it was to learn more modern fields of mathematics with that foundation. Discrete Mathematics should be a required course in High School level math

your videos are gems! thank you very much for this great work :) I tried an online Edx course where the teacher tried to explain these statements but for me, it was difficult to follow him, and left the course. After finishing this course (videos series) I would take the Edx course again and I think I could understand it better.

Ya basically. The goal is to build up logical skills first so that in the future when we do the fun stuff that actually applies, you won't be bogged down by the logic parts

I’m a senior in high school and one of the courses I am taking is college prep math so when I get to college I at least will know what I’m doing. When I learned my 2nd lesson on the 3rd day of school I told my one friend what I was learning and when she asked me what lesson I learned on this day I told her that whoever made the rules way way way back when was either drunk or on high cause nothing made sense but now after watching this it makes a lot more sense. Ps. I’m still trying to understand what the 2nd lesson was and my teacher is on lesson number 6 so this video is super helpful so I don’t have a meltdown in class. 😂

Could anyone answer this question, it does not let me sleep at night sometimes... how on earth is Doctor Trefor in the video writing on that glass sort of thing and it looks right to the viewers? I mean is he writing it inverted from his point of view or is it photoshopped or what? I just cannot get my head around how can someone write inversely and how does it align with the printed content displayed on the screen?

I have a Question. if x>2 is not a statement....then what exactly is it ? is there a term to describe what it is ?
@idhamarifalias71204 жыл бұрын
You right... It should be a statement because it is either true or false... That is what a statement is all about. If we hv to put value, then only can be a statement...? If we put a value to x for x>2, then it will become either a tautology or a contradiction... There is no more either true or false... Example: 5>2 is a tautology.. If we build a truth table for this statement, we only have ONE possibility, which is True. Similarly, 1>2 is a contradiction. If we build a truth table for this statement, we only have ONE possibility, which is False... While in fact, x>2 has value either true or false. If we build the truth table for this statement, there are 2 possibilities. This is a statement is all about... A statement is not about it must be true or must be false. I agree with you
@funnym3tv5103 жыл бұрын
you must know first that x has no value ... so its not true or false... the answer would be like this “ maybe "
@MsSlash892 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is. Some people call them “predicates”, others call them “free propositions” or “free statements”, because the x is a “free” or “dummy” variable. They are usually denoted with parentheses, such as P(x); once you chose a value for x, such as x=2, it becomes a statement, namely P(2). The study of predicates is called “predicate logic” or “first-order logic”.
