I always felt that American mahjong was the most alien of them all, like tf even tho the tiles are thinner some American mahjong sets are fucking pricy as shit! Like the normal Chinese or Japanese sets are just more unique and better

The whole rule change every year is just "capitalism" at work. Even the simplest thing such as board game, they need a way to create a subscription around it. I've only started playing Riichi Mahjong so far, and I love how the Yaku forms the hand. It visually good looking and aesthetic, which is what I assumed the whole point of Yaku is. Just briefly looking at that American Mahjong rule book, I can already tell that they don't think like that. wtf kind of Yaku is 4444 6666 7777. Like common man, stop grifting

@@akira357 NO FR!! You’re just following numbers on cheaply made tiles, like the only way those American sets can get over $100 a piece is that they’re “homemade” when they’re just ruined by the stupid 123456789 above each tile

Very informative! Thank you. Even after my own (exhaustive) research, I still learned a few things from your video. I have two beautiful vintage Chinese style sets I love and your video makes me even more glad about my choices which were, admittedly, made in ignorance of all the variations at the time.

My mom calls the 1 of dots the "Anya tile" because "it's so cute like Anya" -her words (Anya from Spy Family)

Interesting! The set I got for rather cheap at a thrift store seems to have the exact same markings as your japanese set (colour wise) and size, but it has chinese seasons/flowers!

By the way, what background music is that. I shazam it but I can't find anywhere online where they have this song.

I’m 99% sure it’s a substory song from the Yakuza series

btw how to paint the red 5?
@diegogionta74753 ай бұрын
Wax crayon, absolutely the safest way to do it. It creates a layer of fatty wax that eventually can be scrubbed off with a toothbrush. And doesn't damage the original paint.

Are the measurements called out height or width?
@MahjongCompendium3 ай бұрын
Yes, these are the height of the tiles.

Just buy an American set and can play chinese mahjong. I bought American ser but definitely not paying them $15 year for a brochure. Just set rules an leave them alone as chinese rules.

American sets don't stand up as well and it's hard to pick them up when grouped together. Too thin.
