Hi, Thank you very much, this was informative and helpful. Do you have any other lecture in KZbin explaining about the 1. Stub area 2. Not so Stubby area. 3. Totally Stub area. 4. Area Border router,...etc and the LSA types ( 1 thru 5)? I'm confused about these concepts and do not know how to relate them with your lecture and would like to know if we need to know how do we configure these stuff not to mention they ask you about these in an interview

Thanks, glad it helped. I have a new set of videos coming out early next year covering the version 7 content of the CCNA. They removed 80 hours from the program and added about 40% of new stuff like automation.

@@snoogie2563 My youTube page has the version 6 of CCNA for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th phases/classes. The new version 7 Books are not set to be published until June this year so I have to wait to see them so I know what they cover. I am hoping my July to start pushing out the new videos

@@JMacify Thanks for the insight, but as I understand your response, that means the effective date for the new exam preceded the books by 3-4 months. Is that correct? Nonetheless, the vast majority of the material will still have to be core CCNA stuff that is covered in the material you already have out there. I know they're adding automation which to me means scripting, and they're increasing the amount of what used to be CCNA security. Are you eventually planning on doing a video on the differences? Have a great day, and I hope you and yours are well in light of the current pandemic.

Great video. Quick question. If you have a router that is currently the DR and you want another router to be a DR, can you set the priority on the DR router to 0 making it no longer available as a DR? Also, what reasons would one have to elect one DR over another? Thanks.

Yes and No. You can do that but the original DR will remain the DR until a new election is triggered which means you will have to reboot the DR and BDR. An election is only triggered when the DR goes down or the OSPF process is removed from that router. If this is in a production network, change the priorities so the election results will happen as you want them and then at night power off all the routers. Then start the DR, followed a minute or two later with the BDR followed by all the other routers a few minutes later.

You said EIGRP has an Adminitrative Distance of 90 but I thought that was just Internal EIGRP... what has an Administrative Distance of 5?

Internal EIGRP has an AD of 90 and that is the only one that is covered in the CCNA version 5 program. The External EIGRP is covered in the CCIE program and has an AD of 140. The AD of 5 comes from an EIGRP summary route and it is also not a topic of the version 5 CCNA or CCNP program. It might be something they have added to the newest version of the cisco certs, version 6 but I have not seen it covered in the material I have reviewed yet. Dont forget this video is 4.5 years old and things change... One last piece of advice, dont try and learn all things about routing, stick to the topics in the program you are focusing on. Cisco is huge and you could spend a lifetime trying to learn what every little command or detail means. This is why most Cisco guys keep reference books handy.

at 11:42 when configuring OSPF on router R1:- how can wildcard mask for network 10.1.1.0 be 0.0.0.3 shouldn't it be 252.255.255.255? Are you considering it because prefix of the network 10.1.1.0 is /30 so the block size of the addresses is 4 and when calculating wildcard mask it will be written as 3.

You mean 255.255.255.252? Remember that another name for "wildcard" mask is "inverse" or opposite mask so the inverse/opposite of 255.255.255.252 is 0.0.0.3

Why is it bad when the router ID changes because of a router going down?

+francobobfred Imagine you have a core router and several spoke routers all coming off from it. All routing decisions are made from the point of view of the DR meaning, the quickest path to each destination from the DR is what all the other routers receive. Now imagine the core router goes down and you reboot it but now one of the spoke routers is the DR. Every route will get recalculated based on the spokes position and not from the core resulting in lots of extra overhead and several "non-optimized" routes. You want the DR to be centrally located and have the biggest CPU/memory of the bunch because it does most of the work. You dont want the DR on the slowest router that is positioned way out from the core. If you dont understand, think of it this way... You have a pizza and you need to pick a point on the pizza that is the shortest path to all the crust. If you pick the middle of the pizza, you will have the shortest path to all sides of the crust but if you pick a position on the left side of the crust, it will take twice as long to get to the right side of the crust.
