These men were the voices of every 90s kid. Football felt special back then. There was something different about the NFL back then that just doesn’t exist now. I Can’t quite put my finger on it, but I think the absence of John & Pat have something to do with it. As a 5 year old, I knew the entire Steelers starting 11 on both sides of the ball. My 7 year old doesn’t know one player in the NFL.

@@likearollingstone007 I am a grown up and could not agree more! I am 61, and today its just about point spreads, and yes now its gambling ( yes I gamble on the NFL by the way) **BUT years back going as far as the late 60's and thru the 80's and even the 90's there was NEVER a hint or a spoken word about gambling and or the point spread on national TV, as a matter of fact I think it was even illegal to mention that on TV back then (I could be wrong) So I agree with you, it was so much more fun when nothing was mentioned about gambling and or point spreads. NFL has changed so much and not for the better IMO, bad REFS, AND HORRIBLE CALLS, AND VERY DUMB RULES now that make the NFL and tackling look like a touch football game, LOL. **So you have one old timer here that agrees with you 100% Take it ez and Happy New Year to you and the family, Tom in NV

When Harlan became president of the Packers, that's when things started to change.

@@c-dublife People loved Don Majkowski though. He was really the first guy in a long time that gave that team some swagger and I would even go so far as to say if I were to point to a specific game, it might be that famous Bears game with the reversal call in 1989. There's an argument to be made that without the excitement Majkowski created, there would not have been the motivation to revamp that team like they did and Hire Ron Wolf/Mike Holmgren. I was a fan at the time and I can tell you Summerall is right when he mentions the Packers climbing to a level of respectability. They were literally a joke before Majkowski came along.

Madden - You know that God, eh de eh de de, he's a real gunslinger out there. I heard a story about him, or Moses I think. He came upon this defensive wall of water and BOOM! That defensive wall was split in two and Moses took it right up the gut.

And Green Bay did win that game played on Dec. 17, 1989, 40-28, but didn’t make the playoffs. Pat Summerall and John Madden were the best in that era, bar none. R.I.P. John Madden.

Posting this the night before gb@chi. In contrast to ‘89, it’s gb in ‘demise’ and chi on the rise. So wish there could be an intro like this clip.

Lol both were short-lived. McCarthy fired, Packers reload with LaFleur and have 38 wins since and going for their second straight #1 seed.
