Great video! Unlike a lot of videos, you showed a real problem that can be fixed with RX instead of just explaining concepts. That makes it so much more clear when I can see a real world example.

It has been 6 years since you posted this video and I gotta say it's incredible! 15 minutes, but it took almost an hour to listen to everything and to understand these basic principles. Great job man, big ups!

My thesis is about comparing ES6 features with RxJS features. Somehow my handler can't understand why promises can be problematic as they cannot be cancelled. Just as I was feeling trapped (I'm not used to write scientific papers....and I am not that great at expressing myself what I'm thinking), this made it clearer for me what to write down and gave me some motivation. Thnx for the video!

@WillemAartVanDorpen5 жыл бұрын
Very clear, calm and concise presentation. Please consider making more of these. Couldn't the bug in the example have been solved with a more robust design? Instead of storing only the last requested rate, maintaining an associative array of currencies mapped to their exchange rate would prevent this kind of problem, right?
@PacovanderLinden5 жыл бұрын
It would probably prevent this particular bug, but the implementation would be more complex. Besides, it would still be possible to display a previous update of that particular currency, although that is less problematic I guess. How many people think of this before the bug is reported? You do in this case, because you know about this particular race condition, but it is not always obvious. The idea is that reactive operators force you to think about this, about time, about the flow of info. Look at mergeMap vs concatMap vs switchMap... You have to choose one, pick the right one and this bug never happened. 😊
