I have a website! After a year and a half of banging my head against a wall, trying to figure this out myself (using some squarespace videos and workshops) I FINALLY have a workable website thanks to you. I have zero tech experience so I would get pretty frustrated pretty quickly doing this on my own. But I followed along your video, stopping and starting along the way as I copied the steps exactly, and I cannot tell you how useful it was. I learned more in that tutorial than I could teach myself in this last year and a half. Thank you so much.

@vincentcalabrese77065 жыл бұрын
Hey Nick. Thanks for the video, it has been a huge help. I have a question and was hoping you may have some insight. I want to create a custom parallax effect for my intro page. Ideally, I would like my section background to scroll slower than the image I place in front of it... easy... but I want the image in the foreground to be the entire width and height of the section background. The idea is that the image in my foreground is a .png and has some transparent sections, so you can see the section background scroll at a different pace through those sections. I am able to execute this idea from scratch (just html/css without using any CMS). Do you know how I can accomplish this on squarespace? I am trying to edit the CSS but maybe I'm missing something?

I stopped watching this tutorial because the square space layout has changed significantly when this tutorial was done. I would note that I am a beginner. If a recent update can be done that is a bit shorter as some matters go off into a tangent. Not that you are a bad teacher but my prefernce would be a more direct step by step progression. with a bit of an overview as guidance.

Hey. Just finished this tutorial and absolutely loved it. Just had a query: how did you do the text effect in the "I like to..." text? Would love to know how you did it. It'd make my site look really good. Thanks

Hi Andres! Great question. We are actually working on creating a video to cover the topic of adding custom plugins right now, so keep an eye out in the next week for that. But basically, you can add custom plugins from third parties via the custom code block (only available on non-personal-plan sites, so you would need to upgrade if you have the personal plan). A company in England called Square Studio offers a huge suite of amazing plugins, check them out: squarestud.io/

Question. Once a website is live, how can one edit content with it going immediately live? For example, if I wanted to build a new page or form or maybe even a whole new design but don't want it to go live until it is completed. I think you mentioned it during this video (maybe under "not linked" navigation?). Can you explain this or point me in the right direction?

Once you press "save" it goes live. When you change something up it won't go live unless you save it. Great way to try new things without it going public.

I own a small business.. it's an art gallery kiosk at mall of America. We draw & paint custom portraits for people, we have prints for sale& we make custom apparel (shirts & hoodies). I'm building my website now on Squarespace & trying to figure out how to: 1) have a page where customers can build their own apparel (similar to Nike ID)... 2) have a page where customers can upload images that they want custom drawn...... wondering if you can help or point me in the right direction
@boldlyfine6 жыл бұрын
Hi Julian, that sounds really cool! Honestly, that would go way beyond the scope of a Squarespace site. Squarespace is the best option out there for making a great static website/e-commerce store, but when you start to get into creating custom features like designing apparel via your website, you would most likely need to develop a web app from scratch. Image upload is definitely on the easier side to implement in Squarespace (a bit tricky, but doable), but creating a custom apparel user-design interface is a totally different story. While there might be some 3rd party software that integrates into your site to do exactly what you need (we haven't heard of any, but you should look first), it is recommended to have your own branded software created from scratch to handle a super-custom feature like this. You can hire a team of developers to build you anything you could think of (we are a dev-shop and would be happy to quote you), or you can hire freelance developers overseas if the budget is tight. Hope that helps! Feel free to reach out at any time if you need more advice. You can connect with us here: www.boldlyfine.com/contact
