But doesn't the rectangle have 3 or 4 lines of symmetry because you can cut it diagonaly.

I think I answered myself, is it because if you do cut the rectangle diagonal the two Halves wont sit on top of eachother taking the same shape, for example if you fold a rectangle paper from one corner to the corner diagonal opposite to it it won't half into a triangle like a square?
