I literally watched the whole presentation waiting for you to mention the tracker's ability to plan solar and lunar eclipses. Tracking the sun is a feature many amateurs want. Gotta be something out there? I figured that would be a default basic with Celestron. Guess I was wrong.

Dave, GREAT video! One question- when I start up the app and connect to my scope, the 'aiming reticle' for the app seems to choose some random spot to start in, even though the app itself centers its view on Polaris. Is there not some way to adjust the settings on the app so that the reticle is also on Polaris? In truth I can't figure out how to get my 8SE's direction to match the reticle's current position. This would make the alignment process tremendously easier. Please advise

Hello . If you could add an "Update Database" option , like in SkySafari , then we would be able to keep the App current with new Objects such as Comets . Also the Focus page is not very good . I revert to the Hand Controller for very fine control with the Focus Motor . Good news there is that by using the HC , the Motor Steps are reflected in the App which is useful . Thanks !/SRK

No. SkyPortal does not offer camera control.

hello I use the celestron 8se with wifi and the starsense align camera drivers by sky portal I put an angled eyepiece and a bigger eyepiece these block on the mount if I guide the telescope towards the zenith Can the self-alignment process block the angled eyepieces when filming at zenith? the problem persists even if I block the tube at the end So is it better to remove the angled eyepiece for the alignment procedure? I already own a different brand of EQ mount that is motorized but is not a go to mount. Will the WIFI upgrade module work on the EQ mount I already own? Thank you.

I too have not been able to align my Astro fi telescope. I am going to try again tonight by pointing telescope north and then connect. I have the very same trouble the reticle is way off to what I’m looking at. Hence if say I try to align dubhe and align stat in red dot then eye piece because the reticle is so way of it says star is to far away to align . Something costing so much should not be this difficult.

Hi, I am looking to buy a Celestron telescope, Just downloaded the app, but Application star sense explorer doesn't work on Android (Honor 8 phone) The app says "your hardware does not compatible with it" So,what should I do? Will you fix the bug on your side?! I just updated the phone soft for the latest available one. Pls let me know, as now I am in dough to buy a scope. BR, Alex

Newbie question (sorry)! Do you have to manually align the telescope with the finder scope before using SkyPortal?

As another newbie I think the answer is yes. Centre something in scope then turn on finder and move it to the same item getting the red dot on it. That’s all, there is no confirmation or anything. After that you do the 3 star alignment process with the SkyPortal app, which takes me so long I’m too worn out to look for lovely stars. Hope I get faster at this. Btw why didn’t he answer these questions ?

When I use Sky Portal on my phone with my Nexstar Evolution 8, the Disconnect tab is right next to the GOTO and Search tabs, and sometimes my big fingers will tap it while trying GOTO a new planet, or to do a search disconnecting my alignment. Can there be an update to the program that will place the Disconnect tab in a menu away from the user tabs, and or make it ask if you really want to disconnect like the window that comes up when you want to format a flash drive? I really enjoy using it, but this one thing has been a thorn in my side at times, sometimes having to go through realignment again and again in a single night.

I’m having problems with the WiFi module staying connected to my phone with the 8se telescope. I’ve even updated the firmware on the telescope and WiFi module. There is no reliable constant connection to the app. Celestron needs to integrate the WiFi into all NexStar lineup instead of buying a separate module.

Hey, i'm a complete beginner, I am thinking why can't you include connectivity to a zwo camera or dslr camera so i can use the app to take photos, can't see much point of slewing to the object then not being able to photograph it..... and having to switch to a different programme? any replies from anyone would be great..

I have had my Celestron Astro Fi for a month now and I have successfully aligned it 1 out of 12 attempts. I see some other KZbin videos explaining the alignment process and they don't all show the same processes. They also show buttons in the app that I don't have.

Agree with this. This video doesn't help either, it's just long winded marketing BS. I can only see things by using Star Walk and manually moving the telescope.

@@paulwhitworth4657 I have had better luck since posting that comment. You have to point the telescope north when you power it on. This instruction was completely omitted from the user manual, but alignment is not possible without that.

If you could fix the locking up of the app then it would be great. It is a bit better than it used to be but come on its been locking up for years, check the play store reviews! Unless the original Evo 9.25 mount was a bit sketchy...

Hi Blackholegaming, You will not be able to control your AstroMaster telescope using Celestron SkyPortal but you can have the app open while you are observing and listen to the audio descriptions of objects you are observing.
