@compostboomtron90014 жыл бұрын
My parents used to have a D reg (1987) 1.1i Ghia 4 spd. In 2004 on the way to school, the entire exhaust system decided to fall off on the Moortown (Leeds) A6120 ring road, back when it was a national speed limit road. That was the straw that broke the camel's back, and we replaced it with a V reg Polo 1.4L.

@@compostboomtron9001 I can never understand why exhaust systems were so poorly made back then - on the other hand I had a 1989 BMW 535i and the original exhaust lasted 20 years and was replaced in 2009, so they could make a decent exhaust but it was all done on the cheap!

@@triv7252 to be honest, i give it 4-5 years these days before the back box or the flexi pipe starts to blow. They're still not made to last on many small cars, because they're built to a budget.. With the salt on our roads in the UK, the exhaust takes a battering each year and the front edge of the back box takes all the salt spray and rusts like a bastard, then fails at the join to the centre pipe, but often results in both sections having to be replaced.

More features as standard including a pointless touch screens in every car now maybe but same sort of performance and MPG and not much difference in ride and the styling still looks modernish. This was my first car. You had to adjust the choke your self. No power steering. Floor mounted gears no electric windows but I loved it. Crap as overtaking mine was a 950 engine. Mine was full of previous bumps but it got me about. Had a radio casettee player. Very easy to park and the boot was ok too. It was radiant red to start with and then turned off red.

950 popular, 4 gears, no headrests mine didn't even have a radio. It did have mould on the back seats though, which I think was an added extra. Mine was sky blue, and I managed to get some pepperpot alloys. I always wanted a white XR2, maybe one day.

I feel really delighted of myself, that I've recently purchased a 1:18th scale model of the Ford Fiesta, in Mk1 XR2 specification

I had a B-Reg silver 1.1L looked just like the one 11:40mins in. That silver paint (Strato Silver?) was actually lovely and quite thick compared to the others paints it seemed (and heavier?) but the bugger still rusted like an iron nail in the sea - the sills had to be welded-up to pass the MOT three times and then the centering spring for the gear-stick failed which meant only i knew how to drive it. Though that car carried a lot and did a lot, it was very capable and managed 100mph downhill but understeered like a bar of soap. Sold it for £100 and got an E-reg black MK2 1.4S for £400 quid in 2003. Didn't last long :-D

Had an A reg popular plus! It was a cracking little thing. Not having much in the way of an interior meant it was actually pretty spacious inside...glad I never crashed it though it would have folded like a paper cup!

Aye, I was thinking that, the car at the beginning of the video looks like it rolled off the DeLorean line in Belfast! When they did the close up of the front and rear lights I was thinking "Those lights were fitted by a blind plumber I'm guessing..."

I had a crash in one of theses, took a country lane bend at 60mph and rolled about 8 times and landed on the roof, I got out with just a scratch and the car held up extremely well, it was like a tank and definitely saved my life haha I wasn’t driving btw

@terrys4614 жыл бұрын
@@EgoShredder haha tbh wasn't worried about police but when they found my phone in the car after I'd long gone they went through it and dialed "mum" .......... that scared me more than anything they could do 😂😂 the car wasn't stolen but wasn't insured 😅
