The DX was also the sound of 80s Dancehall, being the drum machine used by producers Steelie & Cleavie. So it can be heard on tracks by Super Cat, Shabba Ranks and many others.

Damn, just when my music budget had recovered :-S Blue Monday is one of those "trigger songs" for me, as it was playing loud in the concourse in 1983 when I first showed up at university. Great video alex. I had the oberhiem dx instead of the dmx but did play with dmx in a soho london music store back 1987. This software looks great, sounds just as good plus with the extra features. Believe the originals are selling upwards from £2000 plus.

Just bought it. Would be great though to have multiple outputs per drum, just to throw onto to a DAW's mixer inserts for extensive options. Hopefully this can be added, but it's own mixer and controls are just good enough to work with at the moment. Other than that, the DMX's simplicity and sound is just amazing. I love it.

I wonder if Tom Tom Club tracks like Wordy Rappinghood and Genius of Love were Oberheim DMX too. Or maybe the were LinnDrum or Sequential DrumTraks. Makes me remember that when I was a teenager the Sequential DrumTrax was about the cheapest thing you could buy second-hand. Almost no one wanted them ;/ I blame Grunge. But DrumTraks (1984) was 3 years after, so I guess either DMX or LM-1, which both came out in 1980, the year before the Tom Tom Club album in 1981. The OB-XA was 1980 too, and it was middle of the Prophet 5 run. A golden era.

I came here to listen to the sound of The DMX after hearing it on soft cell album art of falling apart... And now I've course I recognise it sound from many other great hits....
