GKE Autopilot → goo.gle/2Pen9lG
What is GKE Autopilot? GKE Autopilot is a hands-off fully managed solution that empowers developers to focus more on workloads, while GKE Autopilot takes care of node configuration, management, and everything else. In this video, we show you exactly how auto-provisioning works in GKE Autopilot and give a quick demo of its features. If you want to learn about GKE Autopilot, this video is for you!

Is it applicable to any specific version of Kubernetes that one must choose to have the cluster in autopilot? If yes, what's the minimum version for an autopilot cluster?

Isn't Pod request billing a little bit confusing? I can specify request 1MB and consume memory for 2GB (if I have space on worker node)

With a private autopilot cluster, can you configure it to use Cloud NAT for outbound requests? any docs on just that?

It is a nice thing but i would like to know what i cant do with autopilot ? It is the same i can always set nodes to auto upgrade so this is not really a new feature. Pay per pod is nice but sometimes and usally it can cost more in large pod numbers. And finally there is a good reason for me wanting to decide on node pools.

Tried it today, my only issue is with how long it takes for pods to get scheduled.

How to give it a try? I am not presented the same options shown at 4:13. Only the standard setup shows up!

I believe it's rolling out gradually. If it doesn't show up on your console you can try the CLI

Pardon, a GCP beginner here! How is this different than Cloud Run? I mean if you want a no configuration solution than why not just use the Cloud Run?
@mscatdk

Cloud Run needs to be a stateless HTTP container that listens for requests on a port provided by the PORT environment variable and the request will timeout after 60 minutes; hence, you can't run e.g. long running batch processes. Moreover, GKE autopilot can be configured using kubectl and standard Kubernetes deployment descriptors, which are often provided out of the box for a variety of software. However, I do agree that the two offerings seems very similar in case you need to deploy a your own HTTP based microservice.

And it costs more than 2 times more for the CPU core. And - preemptible option, sustained use discount, committed use discount - all gone. Simplicity comes at a cost.
