We are introducing ourselves on You Tube for others to get to know us and what we are up to in the coming months.
Starting in June 2022, Mike and Amber are starting a journey on a tandem bicycle and will travel all over Ontario to raise awareness of LSCD, Limbal Stem Cell Deficiency and the needed funds for the creation of a Stem Cell Registry.
With this bike ride, we are hoping to raise money, with a fundraiser through UHN, Toronto Western, called Tandem Ride for Sight, This fundraiser is for the purpose of creating a Stem Cell Registry,
With the creation of a Stem Cell Registry, a visually impaired patient requiring a stem cell transplant can receive live stem cells from a potential donor who is registered. This registry will be very similar to a bone marrow registry that already exists.
This process relieves stress to the patient-recipient, no longer having to find their own donor as well as save precious time. Both relieving stress and working quickly is necessary for a higher rate of success of regaining vision to the patient.
In addition to our Tandam Ride for Sight, Amber, being visually impaired has written a book called The Blind Girl Sees which will also be promoted along our journey across Ontario.
The proceeds, or royalties from the sale of The Blind Girl Sees will also go towards our goal of raising a minimum of $80,0000 for UHN, Toronto Western, exclusively for the creation of a Stem Cell Registry for ocular diseases.
We are inviting people to join us along our journey, by watching us on You Tube as we video our experience and success.
Lastly, we are also asking for help with information. We need to find a small motor home and a driver who will follow us throughout our journey. Needing a safe place to sleep, eat and take our senior dog with us requires that we have a pace vehicle to keep us safe while on the road. Comments below with ideas, suggestions and offers will be so appreciated.
