Chad LB - without a doubt among the coolest and most relaxed contemporary sax players... And what an artist, with amazing skill and musicality... Great what he does for promoting appreciation and education for sax music, I've been listening much more sax since I discovered Chad LB....

So much good stuff here. The weight of a lot of modern horns just kills the fun of playing them, so having an intelligent conversation of why this "simple" thing really matters is just fantastic. The practical aspect of just making the keys light (man, a lot of modern horns have springs like a freaking truck), nice to see. Jack, we've never met, but you've really a great presentation style, enthusiastic and so knowledgeable. Nice job, Chad! Congratulations to you both!

So who actually makes the horn? P. Mauriat? LC? Or did you get a totally new taiwanese/chinese startup to produce a totally new line of tubes and keys? I would guess this saxophone already exists from some other brand in terms of actual bore specifications.

Taiwan I guess.
@elliottbrown51512 жыл бұрын
Raw materials are just that, raw materials. The most important aspect of how a sax plays is based on how it is set up by the technician, and Jack is a master of his craft.
@Flatshare482 жыл бұрын
@@elliottbrown5151 I don't think so : the alloy + the process + the thickness makes a big difference. I guess from Taiwan as well. I was also thinking not only about the quality of the sound but also the value chain of production of such saxophone. Where goes your money.

I don't understand how a sax can improve with age. Guitars and violins are made of wood which will change over time and sometimes produce wonderful sounds. I'm not saying it ain't so. I just don't understand it. Clarification??
@ericwaters81412 жыл бұрын
he studied what worked in the past with popular horns and used actual player feedback to produce a solid horn? with technology advancing musical instruments are going to get better
@dynoroad2 жыл бұрын
Mechanics get smooth? I guess that's about it. Brass for sure doesn't age in any way that would change the tone of the instrument.
@comhghallgeraghty35412 жыл бұрын
I don’t understand it either. But I can tell you that a sax which is regularly played or has thousands of hours play on it absolutely sounds better than the same model out of the box or that has been in an attic for years no doubt
@davidcox89612 жыл бұрын
@@comhghallgeraghty3541 I can see how a horn that has sat in a case for months or years would have gummed up key work and leaking pads. I've found that playing them improves them.
@vladzhigulsky65842 жыл бұрын
Cars are made to be driven. Saxes are made to be played. I guess pretty much anything brand new need some time to break in and eventually reach its optimal level or performance.
