Quick question - If I have a PBI PRO license - Can I access that Premium Per User Workspace? Or as what was shown in the video it looks like if I create a PPU workspace ONLY other PPU users can access that workspace? Similarly - If I create a PRO workspace, can a PPU access content in my PRO workspace? Curious how sharing works between PRO and PPU

No. They would need a PPU license. I think there is an exception for Admins that they can still manage the workspace but not view the content unless they have a PPU license.

I just created a free Power BI service account & when I click on workspaces there is no diamond listed option like in yours, simply a 'Create a workspace' button at the bottom, & if click on that then it talks about setting up a Pro account ?!?

When you talk about the workspace and only Premium per users being able to access that Workspace. I'm guessing that you cant create an App to share with users without Premium Per user license can view and interact with the reports. So essentially its exactly the same as Power BI Pro, in that everyone looking at reports in the App have to have Pro licences if its not premium capacity?

Anyone knows if Power BI Premium Per User does allow the use of the enhanced compute engine for dataflow? I reckon it stays a specific feature of Power BI Premium ... but have not been able to check that!

We have that with Premium capacity. This is designed for customers that can’t afford that solution.

@@cfinlan Yes but if this would have been added to this individual premium licence then that will make more sense other wise the report consumer will also need that licence instead of pro licence. In small scale org buying premium node is expensive, but this individual licence is good to have if i can share the reports created in the workspace with other pro users. It will be useful only in case the price for this licence is closer to pro licence so that for small scale org can opt to this licence if needed. Correct me if needed anywhere. Thanks

No, if they app has Premium features, you need the Premium per user license or Premium capacity.

According to Microsoft pricing calculator P1 node would be enough for 1000 users, even heavy users. P1 is 5000$ / month so anything that goes above 5 $ /month / user would be a robbery.

I don’t quite follow - if a P1 is $5000, and Pro is $10, wouldn’t 500 users be the tipping point?

​@@cfinlan Hi Chris. Because your own calculator suggests that P1 is enough for 2000 total users with 800 frequent. Plus still need to buy PRO for those who want to publish, nothing changes here.

That calculator is very simplistic and is only for a general sense. There are so many factors in play. As Chris mentioned, from a pure price perspective, 500 users would be the tipping point for a P1.

Does Premium Per User allow you to use the Power Automate flow action "Export to File for Power BI Reports" that is also in Preview right now? I currently have a Pro license and get this error when trying to use that flow: "Report requested for export is not on dedicated capacity". My company really wants the ability to automatically generate a PDF of a Power BI report and send it out via Outlook to specific employees. Right now we have to do this manually.

If the user is licensed yes. You can't use the Power BI Embedded approach with the Embed Token though. That requires an actual Capacity.

There one question not answered by the FAQ: Now I'm (and probably many working in corporate world are) using the Power BI Pro. If I try this trial PPU license and publish in my company's workspace where everyone else is Power BI Pro, would they be able to view the Power BI I publish? This is one thing stopping me from trying out the trial.

Same as previous person asking :) - If you ever had a Pro trial before, there is a potential bug you’ll hit trying to enable the trial. A fix is rolling out now, but if you just contact support, they have a way to fix it for you.

If you ever had a Pro trial before, there is a potential bug you’ll hit trying to enable the trial. A fix is rolling out now, but if you just contact support, they have a way to fix it for you.

Unlimited sharing is really the most important feature for a small/midsize business, so I don't find this to be a very attractive option.

@@cfinlan So if I need PPU in order to have paginated reports, am I going to be able to distribute the paginated reports to users that do NOT have a PPU license? all of our department managers have a Pro license currently. Obviously, its hard to debate this without knowing the price point, but I would agree with @pa beader here... if I am right back to having to spend thousands of dollars per month just to get paginated reports, im going to have to look for another solution. Small/medium businesses just cant harbor that price tag.

If the report is not personalized then you can send it to one account and multiply it with power automate or any other way to forward an email or attachment to a group.

I guess ill have to "get my feet wet" a bit to know what you mean by "personalized" in this context and to test out your Power Automate concept... would be nice if that would work. Im skeptical though. I guess if it works the same way as the Pro email subscriptions, people wont be able to read the report unless they have PPU license...

Do you perhaps know if there's a dataset refresh limitation of 8 with Power BI Premium Per User as well? We are replacing another tool and we were thinking of going with Power BI We are licensed for Power BI Pro but we have a requirement to refresh our datasets more than 8 times (no less than 12 times a day (15 refreshes maximum)) and we didn't really want to go with Premium Capacity just yet, because only a handful of users will be accessing the dashboards

Read the FAQ and saw that the refresh rate is also set to 48 just like in Premium Per Capacity,thank you...

Yup it is Premium. 48 times a day for scheduled refresh.

Also, Premium Per User is on the Gen2 infrastructure, so you aren't gated to 6 concurrent refreshes or anything like that.

@@GuyInACube Ideal should be 1 lic must be needed for a user creating the report. Teammates should be able to open/share it, specifically if they are in the same 365 environment.
