Absolutely maddening stunt pulled by KTM to put this kind of fuel system on a plated bike! So many of us actually ride 20-25 miles to the dirt, put in a 40-50 mile loop and hopefully have enough gas to make it home and call it a day. I was going to buy a new 2024 EXC until I heard about this problem. My 2013 still runs perfect so I'll just stay with it. Thanks Mike for taking the time and research in producing a fix for the problem! Wish I'd bought the 2023 when they were still out there.

Tests show you can already get 7/8ths of the fuel out of new tanks before it runs out. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather carry an extra bottle of fuel than a priming pump. I always pack fuel on big rides regardless.
@TACOMOTOCO9 ай бұрын
Since the small size and weight of a priming tool are by many orders of magnitude more convent than the size and weight of carried fuel, this option makes terrific sense to many riders as an alternative to lugging gas

Sharing my anecdote. I have the 2.9 gallon Acerbis, and I got 5/8ths of the tank before I had to add fuel (or lift the front wheel up). Everything’s fine off road with moderate elevation gain, but when your headed back to town for lunch and fuel, the new design severely limits your range, and the “dual” utility of the bike is not really that useful anymore without carrying extra fuel for the slab back to town.
@ridemfast76252 ай бұрын
@@JedidiahCB With the 3.2 gal Acerbis on a 24 500 excf, would their be some fuel gain because much of the increased fuel capacity is above the pump, not down in the sides on the bottom of the tank?
@JedidiahCB2 ай бұрын
@@ridemfast7625 not enough extra capacity to make the swap worth it in my opinion. as fuel is consumed, it drops lower and lower into the “wings” at the bottom of the tank. Some amount of motion bounces it up to the higher point by the seat where the fuel pump grabs it and feeds it to the engine. The extra fuel from the hump gets you a little further than stock. But not as far as stock was on the previous generations design with the pump sitting down low.

I can't believe the number of people here commenting about how the KTM design doesn't get the fuel out of the tank. For off road riding it has been shown that the design does drain the fuel. This is only a problem for guys riding on roads, supermoto, etc. With this solution it seems you would leave fuel unused in center and right wing until you tip bike over to the left. However with the need to use (carry??) a prime bulb to re-prime that sure seems like a big inconvenience/problem by itself.

Decided to hit the road to get back to the truck because we needed to get home. At 34 damn miles the fuel light came on, fuel level in the left wing was still covered by the shroud, at LEAST 1/3 tank left in it. Made it back to the truck, 45 miles total. Never ran out, but the fuel level is still behind the shroud and the fuel light is on. It's a damn joke. We ride plenty of hard stuff, but sometimes you gotta hit the road. To say the design isn't a failure because it only happens on flat ground Is a joke. For the record, I don't really like this design either, I wont be buying it. You'd probably have to drill some holes in the tank but at least you're not relying on the electric pump to suck as hard. And priming it isn't an issue.
