Love to see heljan manufacture a oo gauge class 73. Troubles I've had with Dapols class 73

Looks like Heljan have finally found a new CAD designer, who knows what accuracy is. Atleast with their latest models, they are more accurate than models from their past. It's a pity the re-tooled Class 47 is so terribly inaccurate. Now all they need to do is understand what normal pricing is.

Beautifull model, but for me you have neglected to show the most important detail of all with regards to its motion. How does it start and stop? Videos usually do omit that important detail. Even some toys can run smoothly once they've got started. It's only the starts and stops that mark the difference between a model and a toy. I love the big flywheels in Heljan locomotives. It baffles me why all models since the dawn of models have not had big flywheels, bigger than the motor. So I know it will have a fairly good stop, but flywheels don't always signify good starts.

Looks like an accurate model - not sure about the Led Zepalike incidental music though🤔😳😳😄 - and at long last no split gears (that only lasted 12 or so years of production though🙄😳😤🙄£££😭😭😭). But the price point is starting to hurt isn't it - especially when we are all being gouged left right and centre by various big businesses. On previous models Eg the 47's they were less accurate, but the price points were achievable. I've always maintained, if the chassis and mechanism is good, the body shape correct, decent detail is provided, leave any additional super-detail options to the modeller and cottage industry suppliers. I don't like the gimmicks either, I suppose "standardisation" means that it's more cost effective to supply with🤔🤔 In addition, Eg with a trunk line (in a normal modest home) and a small garden/garage line, one motor and gearbox would be ample for 5 coaches or so (friends have had nine on, up inclines, with one motor and gearbox). Plus Heljan motors were high amperage requiring large decoders and thus more cost. Dapol et al use higher efficiency motors that can be used with Eg '00' decoders (albeit in smaller locos, but most of us kit builders used 1833s and delrin chain etc and cost effective decoders could be used with that set up, twin or single motors). Do Heljan ever listen to modeller feedback 🤔🤔🙄 And why aren't manufacturers exploring dead rail, either RC of WiFi? DCC equipment can be run with for those who want un-scalable sound options too. Batteries and/or capacitors are options also. The 73 ED has always been a favourite of mine, but at what price in O. I know Heljan will talk about tooling costs, their taxation system import costs etc, but of course we never get to hear of their mark up (plus aren't some aspects made by the CCP in China?). I do hear retailers bemoaning that their mark up is minimal and pinched, for the last couple of decades. Don't get me wrong, it looks a cracking model (I noted wonky handrails though, ABS plastic instead of metal? If so? on a £700+ model!🙄🙄💔🤬). The jury is still out for me, purely on cost vs value vs budget vs quality🤔🤔🤔

It's £662 from most retailers and it's definitely worth it. You're not going to have a kit built and painted for anything less than £1500. Got two of these on order, they're going to be great on my 3rd rail layout.😁

Heljan haven't a clue about O gauge prices. Their prices are a rip-off. You want to see quality + affordability then look at Dapol

@@PeggyDez And their build quality was truly shocking and prior to Richard Webster their accuracy was diabolical!
