We are extremely happy to bring to you yet another very talented young watchmaker in the name of Raúl Pagès who has been working on his very first movement, but to make things easy incorporated a "détente" mechanism.
Raúl has worked for many years on some serious historical restoration projects and this has given him a very comprehensive view of some antique movements, in particular, marine chronometer where you will often find such an escapement. But to translate this into a wristwatch is of course a totally different challenge and something which he achieved brilliantly.

That wheel train is really interesting. The escape wheel/pinion doesn't seem to be interacting with a fourth wheel or pinion. Though you can see a pinion through the jewel, driving the next wheel. Wonder if he put the fourth wheel underneath the main plate to make the escape wheel more visible. Really cool touch

Really cool watch and watchmaker! The turtle is really interesting. As for the watch, he should purple heat treat the screws in the movement to match the sapphires, it would give the movement a nice pop of colour. 85000 CHF (ex vat) is indeed a very steep price but at least you get a unique piece

Hello Marc, it is a pleasure to greet you again, I really enjoyed the conversation with this young entrepreneur Raúl, knowing the details of this artisan regulator movement, but what has surprised me a lot, is the automaton turtle, it is amazing, I have learned something new today, since I had never seen or heard of these mechanisms. It has been a success to have this guest in your space, congratulations! If you have any recommendations to learn a little more about the "automatons" I would appreciate it. Thanks for sharing and... Not knowing technical terminology in a second language in which one is in almost all other aspects fluent… I know the feeling! It’s frustrating isn’t it? Getting technical and “talking shop” to use an English expression doesn’t happen often in second language conversations. Every five seconds you’re digging through a dictionary looking for a term that’s right on the tip of your tongue. Ah! 脱進器!That’s escapement.

I love the bevels and interior/ exterior angles on the bridges but I wish the finishing was different. I know what it entails to get that frosted look but for me personally it just looks a little bland. Especially at this price I need a watchmaker to really wow me and I'm not getting that. I'll be rooting for his success, not that I could ever afford one of these anyways.
@user-zl2sc3bg3g
@user-zl2sc3bg3g 2 жыл бұрын
I can promise you that when you see it in real, it's sincerely not that bland ;) we're doing our best to get this out with our shooting, but true that reality is something else. But coming back on the technique he uses to achieve this, it's really super complicated. One of the only time I saw this was with a Ferdinand Berthoud timepiece and it took them one year to develop this technique for their team!!! Thanks for sharing your view and the best to you

Frosting is probably the best way to highlight those artisanal anglage and mirror polished parts. Making everything shiny won't work well.
@Nefville
@Nefville 2 жыл бұрын
@@chia-mingyang5804 Not shiny. MB&F does it really well so does Ferdinand Berthoud, lots of them but they mix it up a little bit more. I'm sure its amazing in person its too bad I'll probably never see one. Also this is a simple movement so there's not a lot to break it all up, and don't get me wrong its an amazing watch its just for that price that finishing just does not do it for me. And no offense meant, only stating my tastes and perception of this watch, I'm certainly no authority on what anyone else should enjoy.
