There're no important details or specifications in this video, other than marketing whatever that tries to appear like something important. Oxygen free copper? Why? It's not really important that it's oxygen free, it doesn't change properties of copper really(Compared to regular copper, which btw, has almost no oxygen aswell). The only reason they used it is that there're a fairy tale in audiophile community that oxygen-free copper is better, which, has been proven wrong many times. And even if this nonsense would be true, why make the case out of it? Case doesn't carry any signal really Big capacitor on the power line. Wow. A feature. It costs a whopping 1$ and should be a unspoken default on this kind of a device. The only real thing here is that digital and analog circuits are seperated and well shielded, which, indeed will lower the signal to noise ratio. It would be much more informative is they'd included battery capacity, DAC characteristics, and hardware/OS characteristics for that matter.

I paid less than 200 for mine and put a custom firmware on it that made it even better. This player shown in the video is for people that are super into audio. That balanced jack alone is proof. That's only on high end electronics

With a dedicated player, I could leave the phone in the car or use it for something else. These are good to have but you don't have to spend an arm and leg for a DAP. That's Sony just being Sony.

What a really good looking video filled with complete misleading bs. SO much wrong here I'm just gonna try and stick to one issue. Gold. Gold is/can be a better conductor but not for the reasons it is commonly considered to be. Gold (because of it's density) doesn't have the same expansion/contraction properties as much as other metals making it ideal for use in extremem environments of heat, cold, high presssures, rf pollution, etc. The best example is space where there is no atmosphere and temperatures reach extreme levels and the change in temp from shade to direct sunlight is instant. Temps in the shade in space near Earth have been recorded at levels lower than -100 C (-148 F) and in an instant it can jump over 120 C (248 F) in direct sunlight. because there is no air to cool/slow down the temp change. Due to golds atomic structure, density, purity, and a few other properties I can't recall off the top of my head it makes it an ideal conductor for electronics made to last in extreme environments. There is a very small but still measurable increase in sound quality when gold plated jacks are used but it's so miniscule most people wouldn't be able to notice any change at all. As far as whatever the hell they were talking about when it comes to a superior solder or whatever they called it what a complete load of shit. Same goes for the capacitor they highlighted. Thank you Sony for describing the literal standard capacitor used in the majority of electronics that have to peform a digital to analog conversion. They only thing that really would have shown you are coming out with a new and superior product would be to show off what ADC (analog to digital converter), DAC (Digital to analog converter), what file system it supports. If it's music file type isn't .flac as standard (which it won't be it's just gonna be another mp3/4 player maybe with a built in upscaling for non .flac files) and assuming the OS will even support .flac basically what we are looking at is a really fancy video of something you can literally make out of an ipod 5.5 gen from 2005 except the iPod once modded properly would blow this thing away.

I was literally going to start the search for an MP3 player, I've recently purchased some language learning software, since it was used it still used CD's but since I purchased, It came with MP3's also, I've been using an old CD player (Walkman CD players used go for almost 70 believe it or not), but you cannot use a CD player at the gym or conveniently on the go, CD players need to stay still so they won't skip (for any kids who don't know about CD's), can't wait to see this come out and get reviewed. The amount of snake oil regarding gold connections is absurd. Sure they strengthen connections as there is less resistance but this doesn't lead to a "wider sound stage". Sony audio products will always be for the rich audiophile consumer that doesn't actually know much about pro audio. The only Sony products I can think of that music producers actually use are their small set of XLR condenser microphones. Don't get me wrong I like a lot of Sony products myself but they need to be honest in their marketing here.

If ONLY Sony would've done this on its smartphone series rather than a standalone media player they would've rolled in money. All this high quality talk, put it on your phones, I don't want one device for each task if a phone can handle it.

Far too expensive. At 62 yo doubt my ears would appreciate the sound. I’m waiting for the new Cowon Plenue D3. From what l have read it’s an upgrade on the Sony NWZ-A15 that l currently use. The old model cost £297 so hopefully the new one due out soon will not be much more expensive.

this is a true audio grade device . they use full quality digital to analog circuits with no limit on price. ordinary cellphones cut costs on thier sound quality to compete. try listening on a cellphone versus a hi end machine like this. you will hear a difference.

Because smart phones have crap audio the LG phones were the only ones with decent sound and amp section. Music has a lot of detail in it, the seperation of instruments where each sound is coming from can be distinguished with good headphones and a decent source but you wont get that from any run of the mill smartphone with their crappy Qualcomm dacs.
