Can it be controlled by a sequencer via MIDI? It's nice to try out different synth settings when fiddling around and creating single loops. But when playing them back in "song mode", I must recall these settings whenever the corresponding loop pops up. I will NOT run to the timepod to press a button in time with that loop on the sequencer.
@modern_midi3 ай бұрын
Great question. Yes, I am working on the ability for Timepod to trigger snapshot recalls and morphing via external MIDI. It will be implemented by launch :)

Awesome controller. Seems like an upgrade to Midi Fighter Twister. Do the knobs have a push event? And how did you solve the "I forgot what this knob does-problem? eespecially having all those banks of knob configurations.
@modern_midi4 ай бұрын
Thanks! No push-switch on the knobs since push-switch knobs have a loose and "scratchy" feel to them when turning (I've tried many models including the ones on the Twister and they all have the same problem). We decided on making them touch sensitive to bring some of the functionality of push-switches while keeping the premium feel of non-push switch knobs. Color coding could help with associating knob functionality. I am working on the desktop app that will allow you to customize individual ring colors.

Edit: Woops sorry I misread; whether it'll be available on retailers will depend on the demand after launch.
@joesweeney62623 ай бұрын
8x8 would be outrageously awesome, but likely very expensive. I costed out building a 96 knob infinite rotator midi controller with led indicators based on teensy boards. Just the knobs pushed the design into the "my wife would kill me" zone. Ideally, the software in this unit should allow switching between sets. For example, moving from one instrument in the DAW to another could trigger a set. I am really hoping this unit comes in at a decent price point. The build quality looks good. However, the weight and resistance of the knobs will be essential. I'm happy to pay for a premium build! I do not want another "Theory board" debacle...but this super cool. Watching closely.

The snapshotting is cool! But, if it's not needed for a certain project can those buttons be repurposed to just send MIDI? And to receive MIDI to light their LEDs? Also, is every LED in the LED rings addressable via MIDI CC/Sysex? Could we show loop brace style displays and similar with a bit of programming in Max For Live etc?
@modern_midiАй бұрын
Yes we do plan on providing an option per bank to turn the snapshot buttons into programmable buttons instead. Advanced implementation for controlling LEDs will be in a future firmware update, but definitely on the roadmap; the exact implementation details are not fleshed out yet and will be based on community feedback. Very enticing. Will this have 14 bit capabilities? And/or work with Resolumes "absolute relative" midi control?
@modern_midi5 ай бұрын
Currently the software is designed to communicate using standard MIDI which is 7 bits. There is some complication due to the memory used for storing snapshots but the hardware itself is capable of 10-bit precision (0-1023 values). We will need to figure out the best way to support higher bit precisions in a future firmware update. Re: relative midi control, that could be supported in a future firmware update as well.

If I don't need morphing, is there any benefit over the Twister Fighter (the knobs actually feel pretty good to me)?
@modern_midi3 ай бұрын
If you just need knobs only, the Twister is a great controller for that. However, one thing that bugs me about most knob controllers is that they use standard encoders with 128 CPM, meaning it requires a full revolution of the knob to go from 0 to 127, which 1) is ergonomically suboptimal and 2) doesn't match the movement on the LED rings. We use endless analog pots on Timepod which are capable of very high resolution and is configured by default to cover the full MIDI CC value range in an 80% turn.

Hi. Congrats on making something new and interesting! Couple of questions… 1) you sound British, so will the stated dollar price include VAT for UK orders? 2) is it midi 2.0 compliant so that changes made in a DAW will be reflected on the controller? 3) any plans to create DAW specific scripts like for Bitwig? Cheers, Phil
@modern_midi3 ай бұрын
Hi, the narrator in the video is British but I am not haha. Currently I cannot make a statement on whether the price tag will include VAT, as I am focusing on the US market for now. Yes changes in the DAW will reflect on the controller given the DAW is configured to send MIDI sync events to the controller. And I already have people reaching out to help me develop scripts for Bitwig and other DAWs, so I would say yes :)
