Introduction to 3D LiDAR

We can’t help ourselves from talking about 3D LiDAR #sensors, but we never really explained what this wonderful technology is. We made a short video to make it more visual, check this below!
3D LiDAR sensors measure distances in 3D with lasers, very quickly (more than 1 millions times a second), and very precisely (a few centimeters of precision), such that they produce very accurate 3D representation of their environment 👁️
As they are active sensors, they are indifferent to #darkness and very robust to meteorological conditions ☔
You may think that the data they produce is #smart, but it isn’t: for a computer, the “point clouds” that 3D LiDARs produce are just a meaningless collection of 3D points. This is our job to provide the right piece of #software that makes this data understandable and useful for a robot 🦾
With a 3D LiDAR and the right software, nothing is impossible!
