No but mass manufacturing vs custom made, yes. The progress we make in algorithmic/automatic/ai designing + manufacturing process that don't require special tooling like 3D printing, CNC milling, CNC cutting, bending... redefine the cost of custom made and enable a come back. The edge of fdm 3D printing is its low cost, ease of operation and impressive complexity of the parts that for sure enable a non professional to own and use it. But I've seen milling machine for the dental industry that were as easy to operate as a 3D printer.
