مقدمة فى اللغويات التطبيقية Introduction to Applied Linguistics
Applied linguistics is a field of study that looks at how linguistics can help understand real-life problems in areas such as psychology, sociology and education. It can be compared with theoretical linguistics, which looks at areas such as morphology, phonology and lexis.
Applied Linguists are highly trained professionals who use scientific methods to study the use of language in real world situations. In our case, we study how English is used in different contexts, analyzing the language choices and cultural conditions that drive communication transactions
Applied linguistics is about understanding how language and communication works, and being able to communicate effectively in all contexts. These skills could lead to work in many careers and industries, including emerging areas such as machine translation, speech recognition and human-computer interaction
Applied Linguistics is concerned with practical issues involving language use in the real world: language in the workplace, language and migration, language policy, multilingualism, language education, minority and endangered languages, identity issues, and language and technology.
Morphology - the study of the formation of words. Syntax - the study of the formation of sentences. Semantics - the study of meaning. Pragmatics - the study of language use
Major branches of applied linguistics include bilingualism and multilingualism, conversation analysis, contrastive linguistics, language assessment, literacies, discourse analysis, language pedagogy, second language acquisition, language planning and policy, interlinguistics, stylistics, language teacher education,
Applied linguistics is now essential in the practices of English teaching because it supports the teacher in the study of second language acquisition, conduction of error analysis, and making learning easier to get and understand for learners
