Hi, I have not done computer science as a GCSE but I've picked it as an A-level. I was wondering if it's possible for me to do well in this A-level course without fully studying the GCSE syllabus?
@MrBrownCS6 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely! The A level courses are meant to be taught from scratch, so in theory you shouldn't be disadvantaged. I say in theory because if your class has mostly done the GCSE the teacher may speed up some of the GCSE-only topics. This just means some extra work may be needed on your part to catch up, but don't let that put you off. Often those in your position outperform those who have taken it before, because they haven't got that complacency. I hope you like the course!

Do you have any predictions as to what will potentially be in the AS Paper 1 (CIE) of October/November 2018?
@danyalstech43496 жыл бұрын
Let me know if you find it out.
@ChrisLoucaides6 жыл бұрын
I've done some statistical analysis, looking at questions that were in past June Papers and comparing them with October papers of the same year. From what I've seen there's usually around 4 Questions from the June papers that are similar to to some questions from the October papers. Here are my predictions: DBMS/SQL/Normalisation, Assembly Trace Table, Video/Image/Sound Compression, Parity Check, CPU Fundamentals, Some description of an internal operation, OS Management Tasks, Ethics, PHP. Also, what paper will you be doing, I'll be doing component (12) so if you'll be sitting another component and it happens to take place in a different time zone, let me know I'll tell you what was in (12) usually the questions are similar.

hi first of all i must say that this video was really helpful! But i have one question, 3:26 , 1 kilobyte isn't 1024 bytes instead of 1000 bytes?
@Hamza-ef3uk5 жыл бұрын
For GCSE they keep it as a nice whole number. Apparently, it's easier to work with in the exam. I think at A levels you'll have to use 1024.
@ishtiyaqjaunnoo32865 жыл бұрын
yeah because sometimes there are divisble by 1024 in this case we can work out with 1024 otherwise 1000 i think
@ejaz7875 жыл бұрын
@@Hamza-ef3uk A kilobyte is 1000 bytes but a kibibyte is 1024 bytes. People often mix them around but use 1 kilobyte is 1000 bytes in the exam.
@ethan9865 жыл бұрын
Being in binary the computer works in 2s and more specifically the power of 2s. The creators wanted a number close to 1000 and the closest being 2^10=1024 with 2^9=512 and 2^11=2048.
@ethan9865 жыл бұрын
But for GCSE you only need to know that 1000 bytes go into 1 kilobyte
