Terrific video. Please do more on Open CPN, I learned more from your short introduction than five others I watched. Again, Thank You.

I would love to make more videos on OpenCPN.. However I get very few views on this video and so it makes it hard for me to be motivated to make more. Thank you so much for your kind words they are much appreciated.

Well done. Easy to understand. Not sure if 'digital' and 'decimal' are synonyms, (2:30 and 5:20) but I'm sure it won't matter.

Hi I have just found your useful videos, thanks. I have a question- the transit was 75 degrees true, your compass displayed 75 degrees Magnetic, great but what about variation? Do you not have variation in San Diego? Surly you need to subtract W or add E variation from the magnetic bearing. Thus, that 75 degrees and reciprocal to 75 reading must be out by the deviation at those angles by the same amount as the variation in San Diego for that year, rather than deviation zero.

You missed what I said in the setup that I set OpenCPN to read Magnetic on the charts and not TRUE. So OpenCPN is doing the calculation for variation.

did you pickup the mistake you made? digital minutes or decimal minutes ?
@CaptainLang Жыл бұрын
That's the problem with proofing your own material... While I pick up most of my mistakes a few I hear what I meant not what I actually said.

Does not work at all on a Windows 11 machine with 4K monitors. It can't even download charts as it claims it needs a directory, which was already created because the app sees it in other settings..... Navionics is the way to go.

I'm sorry you're having trouble. I produced this video using my Windows 11 notebook, and I haven't had any issues. Navionics is excellent software, but I was trying to offer a free way to learn and experiment. You should be able to use the techniques that I was teaching in the navionic software. Thank you for commenting.

While I don't own a Mac I see both Opencpn and Google Earth Pro have Mac versions...Have you tried?

Did not see zMac version. Will check again. Thanks

you need to create a much more simplistic tutorial for beginners trying to learn charts. This video is too complex---couldnt even follow it.
