In this lecture we introduce the concept of a continuous histogram. That is, a histogram that is a continuous function of image intensity, and we'll illustrate the integral and derivative relationships between the normalized histogram -- or frequency histogram -- and the cumulative frequency distribution. Although the intensities for all real images are restricted to a finite set of possible values, the continuous histogram is an important mathematical tool that enables us to derive some useful intensity transformations for image enhancement.
