Being a builder of panels for fun, it was only natural this appeared in my sidebar recommendations and that I gave it a watch. Deffo a good watch for those who may wish to get into panel building to see some real basics. Had to laugh about the bit about boring! IMHO it is enjoyable to build panels, and exciting to have a looksie in any panel one comes across (even if its watching a video of it) as each panel is like a work of art. Literally a blank canvas when you start from scratch. If someone finds any video about them boring, well them might be in the wrong field of work.

I was thinking about your panel building video this last week while installing a beautiful prebuilt control panel. My co worker had the thing so greasy by the time we were finished !!! He also forced the rigid conduit, that was cut too long with a kick from his boot to the ko on top. The door was a little bent after that. I told him about your video and the gloves, and cleaning every few minutes, and he started to laugh !! So keep in mind what happens after it leaves your place. Pretty sad some of the electricians in factories are just careless labor.
@TimWilborne5 жыл бұрын
Yes I've seen some crazy installations over the years. I should probably do a video showcasing some of them. We have found that if the install isn't done cleanly, the system is more likely to not be taken care of over the years. We've shocked a few owners by telling them we wouldn't build any more control panels for them because their installer's quality wasn't good enough.

@TimWilborne7 жыл бұрын
Those are chemical pumps that we supplied 120VAC continuously to then there was an enable dry contact that actually triggered the pump. So if you find E0114CR1...which can be found on page E01, rung 14, you'll see Y6 enables the pump. The reason we do this is so that the chemical pumps can easily be primed from the pump when changing chemical drums since they are always powered. They switch them to hand at the pump, prime them, then switch them back to auto which puts control back at the PLC. Clear as mud?

@gabrielknight59164 жыл бұрын
I believe what you're referring to is an isolation transformer. This transformer essentially just physically isolates circuits from each other so if you happen to get a short or some other potentially damaging situation on the main side of the circuit, everything on the isolated side of the circuit will be protected from damages

Are these panels built and wired in the field or are they built in a factory and an electrician just comes along and wires electrical supply? Who installs and configures the digital and analong field devices/plc ? I'm very interested in this field of control and automation, just trying to figure out where to start.
@TimWilborne6 жыл бұрын
Usually they are built in a panel shop then installed by an electrician who will at least connect the main power. Some electricians will also connect the motor loads. Usually and electrician will pull the wires for the digital and analog field devices but someone more familiar with the control system will actually land them and power up the system. Here is a good place to start. www.theautomationstore.com/rslogix-500-industrial-control-panel-trainer-lessons/

@@TimWilborne Thank you for the response. I have taken a college course on PLCs systems, we programmed Allen Bradley rslogix 500/5000 based off of real world industrial examples (PLCs 4th edition written by Frank D Petruzella). Am I ready to begin entry work as a PLC programmer? Should I start off as a technician building panels and work my way up by asking for cuts of the ladder logic of what I'm assembling and what the process is to be performed? I had an interview at a company and I was conservative in saying I was ready to get straight into programming but maybe I should have been more confident and gone for it. What are the steps of progression in this industry? Thanks again.
@TimWilborne6 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew. I've been trying to think how to best respond to this and I think I'll turn your question into a video. There is lots of things to consider. There are very few PLC programming jobs out there. I probably program less than 10% of the time. Other time is spent designing, wiring, and most importantly TROUBLESHOOTING. I would get all the programs and control panel wiring diagrams you can and study them. Get yourself a PLC to practice on. And yes be confident! OK gotcha, it has been a few years since I built this panel. This was a brewery waste water system so I'm guessing that these were added because of a biological imbalance in the system. I know adding Ammonia can help reduce foaming and help settle sludge, both which are issues in brewery waste. I don't think Phosphorus was added to this system since removal of phosphorus is usually a challenge in waste water. I'm going to guess that this was a chemical to help in the removal process.

Hi Anna. That is a great question. There are many ways to get there but would need to know a little more of your background. Feel free to send an email to tim@twcontrols.com.

Tim Wilborne beautiful panel sir and I like video. I work in a panel shop in Washington I've been doing it for 3 years now I'm currently learning from a guy that's been doing this 20 years we both started as drivers at our shop so we worked our way into this. It's fun seeing these videos and learning stuff from a different perspective, are there any groups where people share pics and tips on other then here on KZbin?
