Introduction to Endurance Horse Tack - Beth Endurance

The more out there bit about Endurance I guess is our tack. Literally any colour combination goes, professional yards have their horses all in matching colour co-ordinated kit and it always looks so fancy. You can tell at an FEI event which yard a horse is from just by their signature tack style.
I have used three different distributors of endurance tack in the UK over the years and they all have their merits. Plas equestrian httpswww.plasequestrian.co.uk are a Welsh company that also do a lot of traditional leather work and showing halters. Performance Equestrian httpwww.performance-equestrian.com do some really pretty browbands with native american designs or charms, you can also have your horses name or a team name printed onto the biothane, they also stock lots of products for all your endurance needs. Finally Pioneer Endurance httpswww.pioneerendurance.comthey literally will make you anything you need, have a headshy horse there's a bridle for that, need to be seen on the roads hi-viz reflective tack is perfect, it's a super bespoke service that will make something perfect for you. It also has a range of endurance numnahs that I really like.
My tack is predominantly from Pioneer at the moment and I'm saving up to get Qantas his own set, my brother bought me the reins for Christmas so I just need the bridle and breastplate to match. No surprise I'm going for white and navy, but more white than navy this time in a reverse of Azids tack.
Saddle wise anything goes, you just need something that's comfy for you and the horse, fits well and can change as your horse changes shape. You don't need specialist tack to start endurance, as long as it is safe and functional there aren't many rules. Thanks for another great video! I'm learning so much from your channel. I just bought my first biothane bridle and breastplate this morning. It's used, so it was affordable, and it's yellow, which was the color I wanted! So excited to get it. I see you have another video on fitting your tack I'll watch next, I've never used a breastplate so I'm not sure what the fitting guidelines are for it.

Great summary ... always used biothane for hacking as so easy to clean! great tip re rein clips thank you. Do you have any videos about the stirrups you use please ? would be interested to know . keep up the great videos

Hi Beth, it is great to see someone else doing endurance in a Bua. At the 3:02 mark, you attach your breast collar to a lower set of dee rings. My saddle only has the dee rings that are up top, where your saddle pad is looped through, and it makes fitting a breast collar very challenging! How did you get those extra dee rings? Is it a separate attachment or was your saddle made that way? Thank you!

Hi Sarah, the bua was made for me with the added D rings. But if you just lengthen the strap that goes over the whither and the ones that attach to the rings it works as I've used the lower rings too x

Common endurance saddles: podium, setzi, gaston mercier, Franco c, reactor panel, bua but basically anything that fits well and is comfortable, many riders ride in traditional English dressage or jump saddles x

I want to try endurance, but I'm having trouble finding a trainer. Do most people in the sport have trainers, or do they ride and train independently?

In the UK most people ride and train independently but have training sessions for flat work or speed work. There are a handful of endurance coaches in the UK. In a lot of other countries they have professional yards and trainers. Wherever you are I'd recommend finding your local endurance group and ask them what's in your area and if you could be training buddies? X

Hi I am new to the endurance saddle. My horse is very round, low withered and flat backed. Do you have any saddle pad suggestions to prevent slipping? I am considering the Toklat.

I had a very similar sounding horse and a reactor panel saddle didn't move on him. I haven't tried many saddle pads, the toklat doesn't stop slipping though x

No the bua has a flexible carbon tree in it, it's very high whithered and basically fits in anything 👍
