As someone who received an education that is very simple when it comes to English literature (I took my first ever English class in 6th grade) so before that I didn't have any idea about English. I'd love to get deeper into the subject, I like that I'm learning what school didn't provide me in such an accessible and easy way! Thank you.

I don't know how but during my first semester of college, my English professor made me feel interest in English literature. I'm happily working towards my bachelor in human resources management, but ecstatically learning English literature.

Wow, channel owner is the man who gives this lecture series. Thanks, Prof Dr Wilson for your lectures. Appreciate it. If I can graduate from MA successfully, I may apply to your uni for PhD. Need to pass MA first. Your online lectures will provide a great guidance. Thanks.

@@theliteraturechannel9755 Thanks, dear Professor. I have a faint idea that I may pursue my PhD around one of the topics in English literature; like Psychology, Philosophy or Quantitative analytics (like Game theory in literature or AI, deep learning in it, etc). A little bit interdisciplinary, I guess.

Hi Professor Wilson, glad I found your channel here (both as a student and UO alumnus!)! Thank you for the course! As an engineering student, I mostly read engineering books, which I'd say is boring sometimes. So, I just decided to read more English literature. Since this is my second language, I lack approaches to appreciate it. I'd like to learn more about things such as narrative method, rhetorical techniques... the basics. Could you maybe recommend where I should start from and what kinds of resources I could use? Appreciate it!
@theliteraturechannel9755 Жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for the kind words about the channel. In terms of looking at "narrative method" generally, I recommend the following texts: Gerard Genette's Narrative Discourse; Mieke Bal's Narratology: Introduction to the Theory of Narrative; and Seymour Chatman's Story and Discourse. The latter develops the topic in relation to both fiction and film, which is an interesting approach. I also recommend looking at secondary literature that would take a narrative or rhetorical approach to the individual author you're reading at the time. I hope that helps.

Thank you so much professor. Iam interested in pursuing PhD.Would you suggest some text for trauma studies and also throw some light on how to go about it?
@theliteraturechannel97559 күн бұрын
Glad you found the lecture useful. There is a lot of material on Trauma in Literature. It is quite an extensive field. I think the Trauma and Literature (Cambridge UP) text is a good introduction. The roots of the approach are in Freud, so that is a good place to start. In terms of literary texts to apply the approach to, any text dealing with war is a good place to start. I have a series of lectures on War in Literature. Hope this helps and all the best in your studies.

Thank you so much professor. I didn't know the depths of how to go about it with psychology/clinical psychology along with literature. And also trying to select a text that will kickstart my proposal. (From India, here we submit a research proposal during the interview for PhD). That suggestion of Fraud and your lectures are highly appreciated professor.

I really was your assessment. The opinion of the professor, and even from such a field as literature, is very pleasing. I grew up in a family where a selection of books for children was one of the priorities of family education! Mr. Professor, your opinion on my unpretentious reflection encourages. Thank you very much and sincerely! See you on my channel and you too. I have subscribed to your channel. Very impressive!

Good morning Sir, I am from the other side of the world. Actually I have already completed my degree but I due to lack of qualified staff and understaffed college, I have not really learned anything and I literally mean that. I have wasted the last 4 years of my bachelor's degree. I have barely managed to pass but I want to make amends. I want to write and I have realized ( all too late) that the more i read, the better I write. So can you guide me to what I should read. I want to go through 4 years of studying in maybe a year or less. I will do what I have to. I also intend to study abroad and believe me I am trying to work to make some money, so I can pay all my tuition fees. I would really love it if you could guide me. You can send me links of lectures that I need to take. On KZbin or any other platform. Is there anything you cab do about it? Would really help me a lot ... Thank you
@theliteraturechannel97552 жыл бұрын
Hello. Thanks for your question. If you'd like to learn for free, via KZbin or Coursera etc., I think there's a lot of great content out there. For writing, you can check out a couple of my lectures on the channel on how to write a research essay. I also have texts listed at the end of this document that I think will help make you a better writer: drive.google.com/file/d/1WOBYM7eIHpDpZANRTTTmzQLG9GZvuSH_/view?usp=sharing . In terms of other KZbin channels that can help you, I really like Dr. Scott Masson's channel. All the best in your studies.
