He's standing behind a clear whiteboard, and he's just writing on it.

He is standing behind a sheer piece of glass, looking (through the very clean glass surface which he is writing on) at a mirror . That mirror is tilted to *just* the right angle to point the image of him writing (backwards) onto the camera lens. The end result is a video that appears to show is standing on the other side of a glass screen writing sdrakcaB (Backwards). So in order from, say, left to right there is 1) a mirror 2) a camera pointing at the mirror, 3 a glass surface, 3B) lights in line with the glass pointing at the instructor. 4) instructor writing on the glass board with a chalk pen and 5) dark/shaded background screen. To make this work you need a very dark background (with green/blue screen), and have to be very careful about reflections on the glass. It also take some getting used to in terms of where to point on the screen (like Jon does in the part where he is pointing to sections of an image), and which areas you can and cannot write on..
