Have you heard Kissin’s tempo in his performance of Rachmaninoff’s third Piano Concerto? It is slow such that every phrase and nuance can vibrate to its fullness. Thank you for you video.

Yes, but here we have the tempo set by the composer himself in his recording, and it is way faster.

I am not (yet) familiar with this recording. Thank you for your appreciation!

Regarding The 1/4 note = 72 and the 1/2 note = 80, could the latter be an engraving error? If it was meant to be 1/4 = 80 then that’s not unreasonable - a little quicker

A misprint is always an option - however it's also the weakest option, because it always comes down to something like this: "I don't believe what I see because it doesn't match with what I have known so far." In other words: it's always speculative. In this case I would argue that the Liszt Pädagogium (where those metronome markings are published) is so well done in terms of editing and Lina Raman was such an exact and pedantic editor that it is almost unimaginable that she would not have detected such an easily detectable misprint. However, I can't prove it either so I guess we will never know for sure!
