Great video and a well thought out design, just a couple of tweeks to the gas store I'd consider, some form of rail to keep the top straight and stop it from tilting over and leaking gas. Also some weights to the top of the lid to increase pressure at the gas pipe, Meaning you can pipe it further away with better flame pressure. Well done and would be great to see an update.....

Best Biogas video yet, and the gas looks like it was stored much safer than an inner tube or some plastic bag. However, why was the gas tank filled with water? Do you need an outlet for overflow?
@SolarCITIES3 жыл бұрын
Thank you David. An IBC tank does not "deflate" like a bag or an inner tube. It works as a floating gasometer. Each rail is about 200 liters of gas. You can see how much gas you are producing by how high it rises. When gas is used it lowers, when it produces gas, it rises.

Pardon my ignorance how much food waste to manure? And how much food waste too gas do you get per daily use? How much do you have too feed this thing is what im asking.

What keeps the pressure from pushing the 'digestate' up and out of the feeder tube..?? Thank you
@saulthompson6613 Жыл бұрын
Outlet pipe exit is sitting lower therefore it takes less pressure to exit that way. Inlet pipe is higher, it takes more pressure to exit there. Higher pressure will never be achieved since it will be relieved through the exit pipe.

If the methane isn't used for an extended period is there a safety valve that prevents gas pressure from building? What are the safety concerns associated with biodigesters?
@NinoJoel11 ай бұрын
The Gasometers will reach a point where the top half will be so high that the Gas escapes trou the water into the air

does the water in the methane storage devise harbor insects? mosquitos?

Should not since they don't have any place to get to the water

Please, I have a few question, if you can answer it would be a big help for me. What about static electric? No worry that can be dangerous? How you seal the pipes to the IBC? If with glue, doesnt it will corrode via UV? In my country in winter, the temperature between -5°C and +5°C. Is it a problem? May the process stop in cold temperature, and start when 22°C again, or it is going to ruin, and i will need to make a new slurry every vear? And my thought was isn't easier to put a barometer on it than put in floating? Thank you!
@NinoJoel11 ай бұрын
The floating part is important for safety and pressure. If there is to much gas ir will escape without damaging anything. If you use the gas it regulates the pressure and makes the gas usable. The temperature inside the tank should always be around 25 or more or it will not work. If it freezes it damages the tank
@NinoJoel11 ай бұрын
Also static electricity is not a problem with IBC tanks since the material does not charge up easily. Even if it does the gasometer will just flip the top half

It is not LIKE a animal digesting system as it does not have acidic digesting. It is just an anaerobic fermentation.

Hello, I have a question. My biodiogester is full of water and each time I use the water out, that's normal??? What can I do???
@saulthompson6613 Жыл бұрын
Use that water to feed nutrients to your garden. You put stuff in, stuff must come out.
@alennnnn3 жыл бұрын
But the gas will escape from the slurry pipe. Say when your waste is not yet up to the half way point where the slurry hole is. Then the gas will escape right?
@lizhu55703 жыл бұрын
H ali! The first thing we need to do is filled the whole tank with manure and water, so that it will remain the whole anaerobic atmosphere. In this case, the gas won't escape from the slurry pipe.

While answering questions, the response to this one was mistakenly deleted! We don't fill the entire tank with waste. Only 1/40th of it to start and every feeding after it begins producing gas. We actually fill most of the tank with water all the way to the top, but not above the outlet pipe or it will pour over.

after few days when you need to empty bio digester it will be a dirty process. how to clean it please also demonstrate it.thanks
@SolarCITIES3 жыл бұрын
We don't empty the biodigester. That's the point. Just like an animal, or even a human, it keeps digesting the food waste as long as you keep the methanogens alive and you don't overfeed it. This system has been alive for 6 years. If and when it needs to be emptied, the solids can be dried and sold as compost fertilizer. But that hasn't happened yet!

@@SolarCITIES Thats a question I was going to ask, about the solids and how often it needed to be cleared out and how? With septic tanks for a dwelling sewage system, Its recommended every 5 years or so, but this depends on how you maintain the tank, by not putting down soaps, detergents and bleaches, basically anything that will kill the bacteria inside your septic tank. Which makes me think, could you use the gas from a household septic tank? These septic tanks have a vent, which I assume is to stop the build up of gases inside the tank. The septic tank that I have is being constantly aerated and has three linked compartments for the various stages of sewage treatment, the waste water, which is meant to come out clean goes to a soak away. Thanks for your video Alistair

When emptying, does the liquid fertilizer smell? Is it considered fertilizer with anaerobic process is complete when it is emptied from the outlet? Can it be used straight away? Is there any way the tote can be opened up for the removal of fertilizer?
