Thank you for this cool video. As a classical violinist for me scales are essential. One of my teachers said the scales are the basic of technique. And since a couple of years I also do some studies in jazzviolin. Until now nothing outstanding but I learned a lot and iI got very cool ideas to improve my technical abilities. But the idea to improvise on one scale with different rhythms and with random notes I just got by watching this video. I will try it out tomorrow right away. Thanks again and always good luck.

@@truofcl oh yes definitively. As classical trained musician it is in general not easy to improvise especially jazz, at least when you are born in Germany in an absolutely nonjazz family. For my parents jazz was a musical nogo area. So it was not easy to do the first steps. So I@m hrateful to get ideas how to improve.

It is interesting that no one is yet to pickup up the type at time start 3:42 where you released the "E D" to "D E", which should confuse you audiense somewhat, and prompt for some clarification/correction. You however get it right at 3:52, but for credibility and accuracy reasons would recommended correction the typo at 3:42. Either way great effort and thanks for sharing your knowledge.

There's different scale or mode for each step of the major scale. Major: Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Minor: Aeolian, and Locrian. it's all relative. If you know the circle of fifths in major, you know it in 6 other keys.

Ooo!! Tough decision. I say go with your gut :) If you have a little extra budget then my suggestion would be to keep the guitar and save up for a sax so that you have both instruments.

When you play by running up and down the scale as in your first example, do you pay any attention to landing on chord tones on the downbeats, or not?
@truofcl5 ай бұрын
Yes, definitely!! The resolution is always important in the phrases you make with your scales :) but also sometimes it’s cool to land somewhere random as well. Overall, I tend not to overthink and just let my hands go.

Major scales are not minor scales ,It's better you treat different modes in a major scale..The mood is not the same.
@calebjoebaffoe72075 ай бұрын
I guess she wanted to explain the relative major-minor concept
@truofcl5 ай бұрын
Obviously they’re different scales but thinking about it this way simplifies things a lot, makes you overthink the change in key signatures too. Modes are definitely a cool topic, I may have to make a video specifically on modes 👌🏾 that would be cool.
@whatintheworld84695 ай бұрын
She does start off by saying to learn every major scale. Having said that, a (natural) minor scale shares both the same eight notes and key signature as its relative major scale (barring any accidentals, of course)- just arranged in a different order. However, any musician or theorist knows that neither are one in the same in regards to modes.
@Musickvibe5 ай бұрын
I hope you know that modes and the diatonic scale are two different things.

Yeah... u're right in terms of Expression and feels but she's right in terms of Relatives.
