I was searching for reviews for the true induction cooktop. I bought a gas and induction combo to replace the stove in my camper I live in. I found this video and although George never really reviewed the cook top, I couldn't stop watching. I ended up pooring a glass of wine and couldn't wait to start cooking. I just bought a air fryer all in one get to replace the stove and microwave. My tummy started growling. And I never had someone break down the math like he did. Vr interesting. And I've watched 100s of videos while researching solar. I have 6 100 w panels. Anywhoos. This video has it all! All the things I love! Cooking, solar, technology, humor, shameless drinking and it's very professionally done. Well done George. I look forward to another episode of cooking with George.

Here is my reply showing where the math at the end is wrong: How long did it take you to cook the fajitas? You're confusing power and energy in the replenishment time explanation. Here is a more accurate way to arrive at the replenish time. Energy from sun = Energy used in cooking 200 W * (time to replenish) = 900 W * (cooking time) -> (time to replenish) = (900/200) * (cooking time) -> (time to replenish) = 4.5 * (cooking time) Therefore, the amount of time it takes to replenish the energy used for fajitas is 4.5x the cook time.

George, Peter from Australia, I have been using Induction cooktops for at least 12 years. You can take the pan off, toss your eggs, and return it to the hob. it will reactivate the connection and keep cooking. By far the best cooktop for vans. Loved the humour (sorry, we spell it different down under) Peter

I’ve used the single burner version of that same cook top in my camper for years. I thought about the double burner but decided to compromise on more counter space being free. I absolutely love it. It definitely takes some getting used to. And like someone else said you can lift pan for a few seconds, just live with the annoying beep. When you put pan back down it comes back on. 700 watts is always my favorite setting. Cooks quick but not too quick. What I love most is instant EFFICIENT heat with no flame or fumes, and it cools down nearly instantly so no fire risk. Also if my cat walks on counter and steps on it he won’t burn his feet. Only challenge I have is I have to remember to put it in lock mode by holding the lock button for 3 seconds whenever the unit has power. Why you ask? Because my cat will walk across the buttons on the counter and the pads on his feet turn them on. Yes. The cat is allowed everywhere. I’m a bad cat parent. Just have learned everything tastes better with cat hair. Lol Only thing I bought different is I went with a cooking set designed for yachts. So the entire set stores inside itself to save space. And over the years I’ve reduced that set to small pot. Large pot. And frying pan. As far as coffee water goes. I just boil the water in the small pot.

Humble Road as for power. Forgot to add that part. I did kind of same calculations. We must think alike. Of course I’m a middle school engineering teacher so I never grew up past 12. Lol. I bought one of those kill on watt meters during my build. There was so much misinformation on power usage I decided only way I was going to size everything was to do all my own calculations. Just like the wright brothers when they designed their plane. They kept using the published information of the day and kept crashing. Wasn’t till they Wilbur crashed and split his head open that they decided they needed to build their own small wind tunnel and build models to create their own data that they found success. They found all the published data was wrong. So I did just like you when there was no consistency in data available. Bought the kilowatt meter and did out all my own math. My results were a 150ah agm and 150 watt panel would make all I need, including the induction cooking I do. 150 ah agm gives 75ah usable energy. And that’s just fine. have a 150 watt agm and 200 watts solar. I never even worry about the power anymore. Conservative use is no problem from my setup. But I did find that with my induction unit that the unit will draw continuous power down to 700 watts by simply reducing the power in the coil. But under 700 watts it further reduces the power by cycling the coil on and off. That continuous cycling is NOT liked by my inverter! It makes the warning beeper come on eventually. Inverters like mine I guess like to deliver consistent levels of power and don’t like frequent cycling evidently. So I stay at 700 to 900 watts so power draw is even.

Really appreciate the lesson on the energy consumption. That induction cook top looks like the 💣. I’ve used a single induction cook top many times as an extra cook top but never had to worry about the energy consumption as I was always hooked up to shore power, and I love it. You’ll love using one in your PW instead of using your original propane cooktop. One of the comments mentioned the nesting cookware for the cooktop. Amazon sells the Magma brand nesting sets in many different configurations. BTW speaking of Amazon I didn’t realize I could use your link to order things other than what you had listed. I’ve figured out how to do it and told my family as well. What I do is load my cart, go to your KZbin channel, click on one of your links, I have to re-sign in, then my cart shows up and I make my purchase. It’s not as quick but I’m happy to contribute in a very small way. You’re so generous in sharing your knowledge it’s the least I can do. I list this information in case your other subscribers were not aware of this. I just recently learned because I read something in your comments section. Especially in a small area, to have all the heat go into the pan and therefore more of it is used on the food, your working space does not heat up very much. Moreover, though we do not use much oil to cook with, often none if I can do that, it keeps everything more free of cooking residue of which gas creates on its own, a sort of lacquer accumulation on overhead cabinets, only made worse with cooking fatty foods or with a lot of oil. We have an induction range in our home, just love it, would never want to go back. We bought a single burner induction before we got our new home to gain some experience with induction so we’d be sure we would love our new range. Induction is not hype, what it says it is does. Moreover, gas does also have a smell to it and without that smell, in a small space, the coach stays smelling cleaner. Our motor home came with a 4-burner gas range, but I think I will get a two-burner as my husband likes making pancakes. Have to keep the hubby happy.

George, you can take the pan off the stove and flip it like you normally do. When you lift a pan from a flame of an electric or gas stove you are removing it from the heat. Granted you are still getting a little heat from the traditional stoves, but you will be flipping it for a few seconds and then putting it right back on the cooktop to carry on cooking. Take a knife preferably a dinner or butter knife no sharp point and run it down the Avacado a few times and then crosswise then scoop it out. You will have perfect uniform chunks.

I have been using this exact same cooktop at my work place for about three years. I cook on it two - thee times per week. The good thing about it is it heats super fast. The right burner only half works after about six months of use (only half the pan heats). The left burner is still going strong. It does not heat evenly like you would expect. The pan does have hot spots. I never use a power setting over 5 because it's so hot. Usually I use three - four. It seems like the pan gets hotter over a few minutes at the same power setting, though I haven't checked it with a thermometer. The biggest thing I don't like is that it turns off if you lift the pan for more than about six or seven seconds (not immediately though). I would like more time to transfer food to a plate, etc. All in all, I wouldn't buy it again.

I have heard that about this cooker. The exact same circumstances occurred with van #01. She is in contact with the company. If she does not get a positive resolve, I'll let the Humble Road community know about it.

George! We’ve got to start planning our collaboration for the Pop Up Camper van Restaurant! We use induction cooking in our restaurant, especially when making stocks or boiling lobsters, nothing boils huge pots of liquid faster than induction cooking. Professional tip for you as we always lose pot covers, you can always use a cookie sheet or aluminum foil as a cover! Aluminum foil would be great for a van....save space that way. Interesting take on a frittata by the way!

Good info! I bet we cold promote a pop-up camper van restaurant for later in the Summer. Or maybe a nice Fall weekend.

And yes...you will need a learning curve to adapt your recipes to induction :)

Excellent as usual George. The power usage breakdown is an eye-opener. Now I see why some are using a single I-burner and a lithium battery. Too rich for my blood (maybe I'm a cheapskate) I will stick to gas and an electric skillet when tapping into the grid. Vt. is not the sunshine state.

George, the R V world needed you to figure this out!! It drives me crazy when you tour some of the class Bs and most of them have a single burner!! UGH!!

If you use wiring slightly larger than required, have good clean tight connections, and get a good quality inverter, you can get more power out of the system. The power is lost through heat (wiring and connection resistance) and the internal design of the inverter. I just did a quick search and common brands of inverters can range from 80-95% efficiency (which is a big range) depending on size and quality. So choose carefully.

You are correct, dodgeplow. My system includes the Xantrex SW3000 inverter, coupled with the Lithionics BMS. A very efficient communicative arrangement. Here is a video I did on wire size as it relates to length. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXuraIWpeKd8gbc

Yes, it beeps at you when you lift the pan off the surface but that means it suspends the power to the cooktop until it is returned. Flip away ! You should also show how easy it is to clean WHILE USING IT if you spill over like pasta water. You should also show how quickly the surface cools when you’re done cooking. The heat isnt due to the cooking element but is transferred from the heater cookware.

Thanks George, no one has broken it down like you have. I’ve been trying to decide between induction, alcohol and propane.

Always enjoy your cooking videos. While the cookware your show is lovely, it looks like it would take up a lot of space. My preference is for cookware, similar to the Magma nesting sets designed for induction cooktops. ETA: Made this post & went off to do other things. Then it occurred to me I mispoke. In the long run, I really rather bring my little 3 qt Instant Pot camping and skip using the cookware and cooktops. And counter to most people who go camping, I really, really rather drive to a restaurant. lol
