A lot of folks downplay the role of advisors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. because if you're not in an ivy league or even a target school (i.e get an internship your junior year of college) you're not going to be raking in the big bucks. Not everybody lives in the east coast and not everybody can even make it to an ivy leauge. Closest thing out west is the UC system, Stanford and Caltech but even then you'll get some San Francisco job whereas you might as well just pursued computer science instead and make more in Google/Facebook. IB isn't the only place where high salaries are at and it's not fulfilling work; you're not really helping society as much as an engineer does.
