This maybe unrelated, but in spanish there is presence of both "R" sounds. but to differenciate them we double the letters. This means that "rr" is a strong sound, while simply "r" is a mild sound (unless the "r" is in the beginning of the word, in which case it's pronounced as a strong "rr"). Just wanted to give out that info ;)

*frantically takes notes* heck, I didn't know how beneficial it was to have Spanish as my primary language because the pronunciation of phonics and other vocabulary is pronounced similar, if not, the same. The fact that I'm typing this in English is because my grammar in Spanish is disappointing. heh .

I took Spanish in school and I also noticed the similarities between pronunciation between the two languages. Another interesting thing I learned is that the word for bread is the same in both Spanish and Japanese: pan =) And in English, it's something that you fry the bread in if you don't have a toaster oven...

french R is from throat english R is from mouth spanish R is from tip of tongue when she pronunces it alone it sounds like (d) or (b) but for (b) we need to close the mouth/lips so it is more like a (d) when she pronunces it in arigatou it sounds like the spanish R it's like trying to snap a quick (d) mixed with a spanish R with an L positioning I don't like the (R/L) because it is far from an english R more like (spanish R/D/L)

I know I'm late but pretty much the "r" doesn't really have a sound in Japanese and it's more like an R & L sound combined if that makes sense. The "r" will sound more like a d, so instead of sounding like "arigatou", it'll sound like "adigatou". It's like, you have to say it fast. Don't drag the "r" as you would in English. Like they said it's like saying butter or cutter, how your tongue hits a certain spot for the t sound, that same spot's supposed to be hit with your tongue when you say "arigatou". I hope that helped🙏. Please let me know if you need it explained a little better.

Hi, I am an anime enthusiast and I have noticed that sometimes (or quite a lot of times) certain sounds are pronounced for longer time. Some examples are: hontou, where 'n' is pronounced longer than others; korra, horra, where 'r' is pronounced longer; sugoi or sugei, in which 'g' sound is extended; and many more such words. However, unlike the English accent in the pronunciation of 'sa' from 'wasabi' in the video, the Japanese pronunciation is retained. I'd like to know more about this, whether the pronunciations in the anime are correct or not and if they aren't incorrect then what about the contradiction of the rule shown in the video and the anime usage. A language and anime enthusiast, Dev.

I'd say it's closest to a D sound. Like anime character's name's. Eren (Attack on Titan) is pronounced like Eden, you just have to say it fast so the D doesn't seem so powerful xD. And Kirito (Sword Art Online), same case, it's more like Kidito, just half ass the D pronunciation and it'll sound perfect.

Creo que para una persona que su idioma nativo es el Ingles es mas difícil de relacionar las palabras y sonidos ya que el Ingles se escribe de una forma y se pronuncia de otra mientras que en el Español tienes que aprenderte el Hiragana con el símbolo fonético que representa porque cuando lo veas ya sabrás el sonido de manera automática y usar menos el Romanji ya que te confundirás mucho a la hora de aprender Japones.

+Arthur S I believe that's more about the flow of words than anything else. Just as in english we drop the hard t and d sounds when speaking in order to keep the flow of air going, the "ku", "su", "chi", and "tsu" sounds will often lose the vowel component.

I'm rather confused about the pronunciation of を. It is sometimes romanized as o, and sometimes as wo. And discussions on the internet say that o is standard and wo is dialectal/non-standard; or that wo is just ungrammatical. Though I have heard it pronounced wo quite a lot of times. Is there no consensus on this?
