I'm new to leather work, I've learned so much from your experience, I could listen and watch for hours (heck, I have already). I found the bit about the leather releasing heat really interesting, and will watch out for it next time I case my leather. Thanks again Kevin and Denny.

This is a great video by Kevin and Denny from Springfield Leather. One of the highlights I want to note is that mistakes can be made and are expected, but practice is utmost. The tips about moisture content is absolute. A little humor is great.

We absolutely agree! Thanks for watching and happy leather crafting :)

Thank you for posting this video. I am that beginner trying to understand leather stamping and prepping leather for a cub scout activity and really appreciate you taking time to freely imparting your knowledge and experience.

This is a great introduction to leather stamping for a complete beginner like myself. Especially showing what happens when the leather is to wet or to dry. Kevin & Denny, your teaching style is great, felt like having a couple fun uncles teaching me how to do it on a Saturday afternoon. Thank you kindly for sharing your knowledge in a really positive way.

Denny mentioned a "Retired Tombstone" Well, He is almost partially correct. Unlike using a word processor most headstones are hand carved unless they have some sort of machine. However, Unlike a word processor, what it carves is there forever so, MISTAKES are made. Names, Dates whatever could be wrong. At any rate I bought a MISTAKE one about 20 odd years ago and it is AWESOME!!!!!!!!! And it was only $20.00 back then. I doubt they'd be too much more today. So go see the local Monument Carver and ask if they have scrap or mistake markers, Chances are that they will. Happy Tooling!

I use a spray bottle exclusively to wet leather for stamping. I let it dry about five minutes or so until the color changes. I rarely have to re-wet because I only wet what I can work in 15 minutes or so. And as for being perfect, you are correct. I never saw a perfect cow so I blame my little goofs on the cow.

pjculbertson55 I've heard that you should wet the whole piece so you don't leave water marks. Do you have any water marks doing it this way?

Guys, thanks for this ... seriously, its important to have the mental database. I'd watched a video on 'casing' and I was like, "Screw this, if that's what it takes." For my son and I, its a hobby for fun, not a life style.

Man I am sure appreciative of videos like this. I am as beginner as it gets, and this helps immensely, even just with confidence. One question if anyone might be taking questions; do you always do staining/finishing after stamping, or before? By the way the tid-bit about steel reacting with wet leather, explains why my little pocket knife slip turned black and put little marks on my pocket knife I suspect. Oh well, darn it. :)

Hi, Colin! So happy that you found our videos helpful! Yes, you'll always want to stain and finish after stamping. Congratulations on starting your leather craft journey, and happy making :)

What about using a soapstone kitchen counter top about 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 inch thick?
@SpringfieldLeather8 жыл бұрын
It may work, but soapstone is softer than granite or marble and may break. If it's your kitchen counter, we wouldn't recommend it, just in case!
@JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Hopkins nope not my kitchen counter, it was some scrap from a friends new kitchen remodel. Thanks for the response.

Why would you create a presentation like this and not have clear camera angles like overhead so we can see what you are doing . Almost unwatchable .
