This tutorial is perfection. I stitch a ton of crewel but I'm completely new to needlepoint. Her instructions are clear and concise and the camerawork is impeccable. Every second is filled with useful information and her speaking voice is pleasant. Can't begin to tell you how grateful I am for quality content creators like Wellesley. Thanks a million!

Here I am. A 55 y/o guy discovering needlepoint for the first time! Now that the kids are just about out of the nest, I have been continuously perplexed as to discovering or rediscovering mutual avocations. I just started my very first project last night which will be a gift for her when I finish. In response, she rustled through storage and brought out an unfinished hardanger project on which she was working prior to the birth of our first child twenty years ago. What a delightful moment! We certainly have struggled in our relationship throughout the vissisitudes if life. Consider such hobbies marriage therapy! I had ordered a complete needlepoint kit. Upon starting my project for her, I had not a clue as to how to make even the first stitch. I found your video and your teaching style to be superb!! Thank you very much for your most kind and excellent help! I am sincerely grateful to you. I would like to share with you a photo of my project. I am not sure if this is possible under the comment section here. If only my Tech Support, i.e. my youngest son, was here to show me! Sincerely yours, Blake Anderson

Excellent video. I've done quite a bit of needlework, but never needlepoint. I bought a fairly expensive designer canvas and was ready to start right away thinking "how tough can this be?" I decided to watch a video. Fortunately, I randomly picked this one. So many tips and clear rationale as to why things are done a certain way! My project will be so much better as a result. Thank you!

Finally a really visible and helpful video, I am so thankful for that! :) I was wondering about how to end the thread when you stich those tiny areas since there is not much for you to stitch under. I hope I will see an example for that too in the next vids I am gonna watch. Thank you again! :)

When you started the green on the painted canvas, did you use a waste knot? How did you start that thread?
@kitcat123ful
@kitcat123ful 4 жыл бұрын
Actually what you referred to as an "x" is a cross,( "+" )or plus sign. What you are stitching is half an x (a diagonal.) That's my only criticism. Great tutorial over all and helped me a lot.
@PatBastian

I struggled too with the X characterization until I figured out that the X is defined by the 4 holes, not the mesh.

There's lots of good info, but I wish I could see more about how you secure your threads when working the individual different colored stitches dotted around the canvas. It seems you just have threads running all directions on the back, crossing each other. Is there a rule of thumb as to how far one can run the threads across the back? Do you use a waste knot for each color? Do you finish using one color and secure [somehow] before starting another?

You don’t mention the frame your canvas is stapled to. Just the scissors and the needle holder. Do you just use a picture frame and staple the canvas to it? Do you do this so the canvas does not stretch? And what is the big white thing on the side?

I’m a beginner & purchased 10 mesh canvas & a scroll frame for a portrait. This is my very first attempt at this. Is this the right frame for such stiff canvas or do I need stretcher bars? I’m afraid that I will damage the canvas. Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Think of it as more the + so where the two "bars" meet. As you're going across it diagonally you're "crossing" them. Hope that helps.

Thank you Charlotte. I, too, had the same question, as I did not see/understand the ''x'' that was being referred to. I only see a cross when you hold the canvas upright; you must turn the canvas 45 degrees to see an ''x'.'
