I am an electrical engineering undergrad student with only a very small knowledge of thermodynamics. This video is very understandable and is a nice introduction into a topic that seems quite complicated. Statistical physics is not a part of my studies but I want to learn more about physics.

I don't usually comment on youtube videos. However this was by far the most lucid explanation of an abstract concept. I finally have a vivid understanding of certain things I couldn't comprehend in class. Keep up the good work👍.

Thanks for these videos. My uni lectures are such a slog, but this was surprisingly enjoyable. Appreciate that you put enthusiasm into your videos and explain things in a very simple and clear manner. Thought I was just a pleb, but these videos have really boosted my confidence.

6:46 great, because I’ve never heard of that one before. Something could never be both a quark and a gluon, right? A gluon is a boson.

entropy is not a measure of disorder. it's a measure of how much possible complexity is remaining in a system

Hi Pazzy, thank you very much for these videos. They are a valuable complement to the course I am currently taking. I am a teacher myself and I very much enjoy your skill with your equipment, you can write very legibly and make good figures. What things (hardware and software) you are using? I might want to get a similar setup. /Kindest regards Johnny

Hi Johnny, sorry for (very) late reply! It’s quite complicated, I use the screen record feature on my iPad to record the footage, and the app I use is notability, in which I write using an Apple Pencil. For the audio, I normally just use my laptop microphone, though I do use a blue snowball that I sometime use. For recording, I use QuickTime audio record. I edit the videos in Final Cut, where I synchronise the audio and the video so that it is in alignment.

@ roughly 14:54, isn't that the formula for combinations? If the particles were non-distinguishable then this would be the case (,right?) but here they are distinguishable. So, should the permutations be calculated using nPr instead of nCr? I'm confused... Could you please elaborate a bit because I can't see where my reasoning fails?
@pazzy768
@pazzy768 2 жыл бұрын
So with the saying "With permutations, order matters" - this doesn't correlate with whether particles are distinguishable/indistinguishable. For example, the digits 1-1-2 and 1-2-1 is the same combination, but a different permutations, however this doesn't change the fact that the two 1's are indistinguishable, and so 1-2-1 only counts as 1 permutation of this group of combinations. I hope that makes sense.

Physically nothing can have absolutely zero energy due to quantum effects, however we can say that the ground state can be chosen to have zero energy (as a reference)

Thank you for your video, just one question : the way that you calculate the number of microstates Omega is Bose-Einstein statistics right?
@pazzy768
@pazzy768 Жыл бұрын
At the moment, we’re simply assuming a system where any combination is allowed, and there is no quantum effects. Bose Einstein statistics come from when we consider the symmetry of the way function of the particle, which is beyond the introductory scope. We come onto that in a later video!

Is it me just wildly speculating or does this actually relate to your lecture and subject? Particle in a box model Thanks for your well produced video. Your viewers might enjoy seeing my personal amateur science project in the visual aid linked below. It uses a sheet of spring-like material buckled from the ends to form a Gaussian curve. This is to represents a two dimensional field with the ends bounded. Seeing the mechanical effect may also takes some of the mystery of what the math is showing. See the load verse deflection graph in the white paper found elsewhere on my KZbin channel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/raOlpKSfepWpfZYsi=waT8lY2iX-wJdjO3
