That's one way to look at it. Another way is to notice that, under the state church of Constantine, the 'church' left the 'way' and followed dogma, tradition. From that point forward dogma literally defined the establishment church with variations that became 'denominations' through 'statements of faith'. Paul said "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity" -1 Cor 13:13. Where is your 'statement of charity'?
